As a Financial Lines Underwriter, you will focus on underwriting large and complex accounts within the Financial Lines portfolio (Management Liability and Financial Institutions). The ideal candidate will be a strong influencer, able to effectively manage referrals and secure approvals, while building trusted relationships with brokers and clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Underwrite and manage a portfolio of major accounts, ensuring underwriting integrity and adherence to guidelines.
  • Achieve quote and hit rates for new business, with a focus on major and complex accounts.
  • Collaborate with other lines of business and sales teams to target and secure key accounts.
  • Maintain an up-to-date new business pipeline and proactively review renewal strategies to achieve retention and rate objectives.
  • Anticipate and manage the referral process to local, regional, and global underwriting leadership, using strong influencing skills to obtain timely approvals.
  • Ensure underwriting rationale is robust and well-documented for each account.
  • Develop and maintain close relationships with key broker teams and major clients, supporting sales and market-facing activities.
  • Participate in major account meetings and communicate proactively with the Head of Financial Lines regarding key figures and market conditions.
  • Manage policy wording in line with underwriting guidelines, in collaboration with regional and wording specialists.
  • Embed cross-sell and growth thinking into daily underwriting practices.
  • Ensure timely and accurate booking of business.
  • Communicate effectively with senior management as required (e.g., escalation processes).
Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience required in underwriting Financial Lines products (Management Liability and/or Financial Institutions) at an insurance carrier or broker, with a focus on major accounts.
  • Strong influencing and negotiation skills, particularly in managing the referral process and securing approvals.
  • Proven track record of working with top brokers and major clients.
  • Results-driven, able to make independent decisions and work proactively.
  • Recognized as an experienced professional in the market.
  • Legal or financial academic background combined with insurance expertise preferred.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the insurance market and competitors.
  • Fluency in English required.
