General Summary:

Vertex is seeking a Sr. Manager, Contract Management to support a few business functions. In this role, you will manage the full contract lifecycle for a wide range of business agreements collaborating closely with colleagues across Legal, OBIE and Strategic Sourcing. The ideal candidate will bring strong contract administration experience, sound business judgment, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.

This position requires a highly organized professional who can balance competing priorities, ensure compliance with internal policies, and help drive efficient, consistent contracting processes.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the end-to-end contract lifecycle for complex buy side agreements, including intake, drafting, review, negotiation coordination, execution, amendment, renewal, and closeout
  • Manage a diverse portfolio of contracts, including professional services, consulting, technology, facilities, and other procurement agreements
  • Serve as a strategic contracting partner to business stakeholders by advising on contracting approach, risk considerations, timelines, and process requirements
  • Coordinate with Legal, Strategic Sourcing, Finance, OBIE, Privacy, Information Security, and other cross-functional teams to drive contract review and approval processes
  • Review and analyze contract terms for commercial, operational, and compliance considerations, escalating non-standard provisions where appropriate
  • Support negotiations by consolidating stakeholder feedback, resolving business issues, and helping facilitate timely agreement execution
  • Ensure adherence to internal policies, contracting standards, approval workflows, and signature authority requirements
  • Maintain accurate, audit-ready contract records within contract lifecycle management systems and related repositories
  • Develop, refine, and maintain standard operating procedures, and guidance materials for contracting activities
  • Analyze contract data and reporting metrics to identify bottlenecks, trends, and opportunities for operational improvement
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to streamline contracting processes, improve cycle times, and enhance stakeholder experience
  • Manage a small team of contractors, ensuring that they provide adequate support to the business and deliver timely and compliant contracts
  • Provide guidance and informal mentorship to less experienced team members or business partners on contract processes and best practices
  • Support internal audits, compliance reviews, and documentation requests related to contracts

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of third party risk management and contracting; proficient in applying knowledge in day to day contract management tasks
  • Proficient in project management and organizational skills. Track record of successful execution of complex, cross-functional initiatives.
  • Able to independently establish and maintain effective business partner relationships with stakeholders; consistently gains stakeholder respect and trust;
  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal; able to clearly articulate opinions in concise and persuasive manner.
  • Continuous improvement mindset, challenging status quo and consistently looking to identify opportunity to improve processes and tools.
  • Proficient in driving change management activities. Comfortable speaking in front of groups and/or leading meetings
  • Ability to work in a collaborative, team environment; ability to cultivate and maintain effective business partner relationships through earned respect and trust.
  • Foundational knowledge of Pharmaceutical industry suppliers, categories and marketplace
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Law
  • Typically requires 6-7 years of experience in a contracting role or the equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Pharmaceutical industry experience

Pay Range:

$132,000 - $198,000

Disclosure Statement:

The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
