The Job

As Customer Solutions Engineer, your goal is to make going live with and using Purple Dot software a smooth, fast and delightful experience for the eComm brands that use us. Your software engineering skills and expert understanding of our pre-order platform helps brands utilise our platform to its fullest extent.

  • In partnership with our onboarding team, you will work on new account activations:
    • Sometimes you will be writing code to integrate Purple Dot into brand’s eComm store yourself following (and improving) our public docs.
    • Sometimes you will provide technical guidance to brands that have their own engineering teams who are writing the code to integrate Purple Dot on their own.
  • In partnership with our customer support team, you will be the first line of technical triage for support queries that cannot be resolved without engineering help.
  • Promote customer retention by capturing and communicating technical and product gaps in our platform.
  • Participate in our lightweight software engineering process - backlog prioritization, code reviews, frequent deploys and daily standups.

This is a full-time role.

We work in a hybrid model - you will be expected to work from our office at 154 W 14th St 3 days a week (Tue-Thu).

Why we think you’ll love working at Purple Dot

  • You’ll work with the founding members of a fast-moving, flexible, and focused team that has already taken one startup from an idea to a successful exit.
  • You’ll have an opportunity to learn and grow very quickly, working next to an experienced engineering team (4 staff engineers, 4 senior engineers).
  • We are growing but already have many customer brands that love our platform and are helping us shape it.
  • You’ll have a direct impact on our merchants and shoppers with everything you touch, instead of just keeping the lights on.
  • We are all in this for the journey and the experience and like to make it fun.

What you’ll need to be successful

  • Be an excellent communicator, able to:
    • Understand brands’ requirements and their reasons
    • Write and talk about complex technical ideas - and their progress - with technical and non-technical stakeholders
    • Work with internal and external stakeholders to reach consensus and make progress
  • Have software engineering skillset of at least a mid level full stack engineer
    • You have 3-5 years of experience integrating 3rd party software into a public facing software stack.
    • Fluent in HTML/CSS/JavaScript and/or TypeScript, browser APIs and comfortable editing and debugging frontend code.
  • Find joy in understanding customers’ needs and addressing them quickly.
  • Have a desire to quickly release and iterate – you are happiest when the things you build go live.
  • You are comfortable with regular work reprioritisation and helping multiple brands in parallel.
  • We are a fast moving small scale up - we all wear multiple hats, and in this role you too will spread across what other, bigger companies will specialise into distinct solutions engineering, sales engineering or forward deployed engineering roles.

Bonus points for

  • Experience with e-commerce platforms like Shopify.
  • Experience integrating with e-commerce ERPs, OMSs and 3PLs.
  • Experience with full stack frameworks like React+Node.js/Django/Ruby on Rails.
  • Experience working on applications that run on cloud platforms (we use AWS).
  • Evidence of contributing to complex backend systems powering webpages or APIs.
  • Experience with payment infrastructure like Stripe or Paypal.
  • Experience with SQL databases like Postgres.

Benefits

  • $120k - $140k salary.
  • Equity options - so that you can share in Purple Dot’s success.
  • $500 per month for your choice of healthcare managed through our HRA Platform TakeCommand Health.
  • 20 days paid vacation per year.
  • $1800 per year to work out of our London office for a week.
  • $1300 per year to spend on your own holidays.
  • $1300 per year to spend on your own learning and development.
  • $300 per year to spend on products sold through Purple Dot.
  • Company MacBook Pro delivered in time for your first day.
  • Sometimes there’s free food, sometimes there’s free travel.

What We Do

For decades, brands have waited for stock to arrive at the warehouse to sell it online. But this waiting isn’t going well: nearly 1 in 4 products produced is never sold. Despite efforts across the industry to increase sell-through once stock arrives, e-commerce requires a radical rebuild to create long-term business sustainability as well as for our planet. This is a $100s billion opportunity. That’s why at Purple Dot, we believe the next 10 years of e-commerce innovation will happen before stock arrives at the warehouse. We see a world where some, or even most, stock is sold before it arrives, constantly reducing inventory risk and waste. Whether it’s 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, or 1 year away, Purple Dot helps brands sell more and store less by selling earlier. Our pre-commerce solution is proudly trusted by hundreds of brands across every industry including Mattel, McLaren, New Era, Limited Run Games and Knockaround, processing millions of dollars per month in transactions.

Why Work With Us

We are a team of 22 with offices in London (UK), Charlotte (NC, USA) and New York City (NY, USA). We are backed by leading investors and led by 2nd time founders with a previously acquired start-up. We're looking for a person that resonates with our work values (bit.ly/purpledot_culture) and wants to help make eCommerce less wasteful.
