The Solutions Architect is responsible for designing, governing, and guiding enterprise application solutions that support Family Dollar’s business operations at scale. This role works closely with business partners, product owners, development teams, and external vendors to translate business requirements into secure, scalable, and maintainable technical solutions.
The Solutions Architect plays a key role during intake, design, and delivery by defining solution architectures, integration patterns, and technical standards. While not directly responsible for people or project management, this role provides critical technical leadership to ensure solutions align with enterprise architecture principles and long‑term technology strategy.
Key Responsibilities
- Design end‑to‑end application and integration solutions that are scalable, secure, and aligned with enterprise standards
- Translate business requirements into clear technical architectures, designs, and integration patterns
- Provide technical leadership and architectural guidance to development teams and external partners
- Review and approve solution designs, vendor proposals, and implementation approaches
- Identify architectural risks, dependencies, and tradeoffs, and recommend mitigation strategies
- Define and govern APIs, data flows, system integrations, and platform alignment
- Collaborate closely with application development, infrastructure, security, and business teams throughout delivery
- Support modernization efforts, including legacy reduction, cloud adoption, and platform optimization
- Ensure solutions are production‑ready, supportable, and aligned with long‑term technology strategy
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, Engineering, or a related field
OR equivalent professional experience. - 7+ years of experience in application development, system integration, or architecture roles
- Demonstrated experience designing complex, multi‑system enterprise solutions
- Strong understanding of application architecture patterns and design principles
- Experience working with internal delivery teams and external vendors or system integrators
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non‑technical audiences
Preferred but not required
- Familiarity with retail enterprise systems such as store systems, supply chain, merchandising, or corporate platforms
- Working knowledge of:
- Web and mobile application architectures
- Backend services, APIs, and event‑driven integration patterns
- Data feeds, messaging platforms, and ETL processes
- Experience supporting business‑critical, highly integrated systems
- Exposure to Agile or hybrid delivery models and SDLC best practices
- General understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and enterprise architecture concepts
