Primary Purpose
Our team is leveraging the latest new technologies to craft the next generation software core of Ahold Delhaize's eCommerce and order fulfillment infrastructure. As an Engineering Manager, you will lead efforts to build out our suite of highly efficient and performant web services as well as web and mobile applications, used to streamline the process of turning orders into high-quality products in the hands of our customers.
Duties & Responsibilities

  • Planning, designing, and overseeing projects, as well as managing capital funding and supervising one or more engineering teams.
  • Leading agile scrum teams to implement the critical components of the project balancing product feature development with technical debt tasks towards building stable applications susceptible to fast business changes.
  • Identify business needs and make suggestions regarding technical direction
  • Stay ahead of with the latest software trends and emerging technologies and recommend opportunities for innovation
  • Establish development standards with help from architects and performing engineers.
  • Influence and inspire the strategic direction of the product portfolio and development practices.
  • Makes sound business decisions regarding how technologies will be implemented.
  • Makes recommendations to management and is heavily influential in the decision-making process
  • Mentor and groom developers to master modern technologies and enhance business domains
  • Coordinate & facilitate cross-domain teams communication and resolve solutioning conflicts.
  • Provide consulting / direction to tackle business problems or needs arising from everyday events or unexpected / catastrophic events.
  • Exposure to high scale order management, merchandizing, and fulfillment systems.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering or equivalent.
  • 3+ years of experience in managing small to medium sized teams
  • 7+ years of experience in software engineering
  • Deep understanding of software development lifecycle concepts and agile development methods.
  • Good understanding in core technologies: Java, Spring, RESTful API, messaging frameworks, container-based development (Docker), Elastic Search, Relational Database (PostgreSQL), NoSQL (Azure Cosmos DB or Cassandra) and event driven architecture solutions such as Kafka
  • Exposure to crafting, developing, and implementing the complex projects using Azure Cloud computing technologies - Azure AKS, Azure APIM, Azure Cosmos DB, Azure SQL Database, Redis, Istio, Multi-Tenant. Single Tenant and Azure AD
  • Solid experience in implementing Microservices Architecture and building / deploying highly automated, scalable, and maintainable infrastructure.
  • Proven expertise in modernizing legacy applications to modern technologies in Azure cloud
  • Knowledge of Continuous Delivery process and tools, testing frameworks and practices (preferably GitHub, Jenkins, etc.)


Preferred Qualifications

  • Capable of navigating across a sophisticated and constantly evolving landscape by staying on top of timely delivery of software applications.
  • Able to champion efficient communication in a team environment.
  • Experience with effectively using Jira, confluence, and other efficiency tools in an Agile development methodology.
  • Detailed understanding of the business strategy, operations, markets, and key collaborators.
  • Strong communication skills and technical expertise to drive and participate in substantial discussions with partners across business roles and abilities.
  • Preferred you have grocery and digital retail industry experience.
