The Role

Cigna, a leading Health Services company, is looking for an exceptional Full Stack Engineer in our Behavioral Health organization. The Full Stack Engineer is responsible for the delivery of a business need starting from understanding the requirements to deploying the software into production. This role requires you to be fluent in some of the critical technologies with proficiency in others and have a hunger to learn on the job and add value to the business. Critical attributes of being a Full Stack Engineer, among others, are ownership, eagerness to learn & an open mindset. In addition to delivery, the Full Stack Engineer should have automation first and continuous improvement mindset. Person should drive the adoption of CI/CD tools and support AIassisted development tools to enable rapid, highquality delivery. 

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Collaborate with business stakeholders, product owners, and technical leadership to gather, analyze, and translate requirements into scalable application solutions. 

  • Design and develop modern applications following best practices in performance, accessibility, and usability. 

  • Apply strong software architecture design principles to deliver reusable code, intuitive interfaces and consistent design systems. 

  • Design, develop, and maintain backend services and RESTful APIs using Java and Spring Boot. 

  • Build cloudnative applications on AWS and Openshift/Kubernetes, leveraging managed services and best practices for scalability, reliability, and security. 

  • Leverage AIassisted development tools (e.g., Cursor, Devin AI, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot) to:  

  • Accelerate feature development and prototyping. 

  • Improve code quality, refactoring, and documentation. 

  • Assist with debugging and test generation. 

  • Automate repetitive engineering tasks. 

  • AI Prompting & Context Engineering. 

  • Vibe Coding & Rapid Iteration. 

  • Integrate applications with Oracle, DynamoDB databases, including schema design, query optimization, and transactional consistency. 

  • Implement secure authentication and authorization for web applications and APIs. 

  • Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines to automate build, test, and deployment workflows. 

  • Deploy and manage applications using containerization and cloudbased infrastructure as required. 

  • Supporting legacy applications involves updating frameworks and libraries to enhance security, performance, and compatibility. 

  • Monitor application health, performance, and logs; proactively identify and resolve issues. 

  • Participate actively in Agile ceremonies: planning, grooming, standups, demos, and retrospectives. 

  • Conduct code reviews and enforce engineering best practices across frontend, backend, and cloud components. 

  • Continuously evaluate and adopt modern frameworks, cloud services, and AIdriven engineering practices to improve delivery speed and quality. 

Experience Required: 

  • - 8 years of software development experience, frontend and backend 

  • Strong backend development experience using Java and Spring Boot, including:  

  • REST API design and implementation 

  • Microservicesbased architectures 

  • Strong understanding of version control (Git) and collaborative development workflows. 

  • Strong frontend development expertise 

  • Modern JavaScript / TypeScript. 

  • Componentbased architecture. 

  • HTML5, CSS3, responsive design. 

  • Strong AWS or Openshift/Kubernetes cloud development experience 

  • EC2, S3, RDS, DynamoDB 

  • Lambda, ECS/EKS 

  • IAM, CloudWatch, API Gateway 

  • Experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using tools such as:  

  • Git, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, ArgoCD. 

  • Experience with DevOps practices, containerization (Docker), and cloudnative deployment patterns. 

  • Mandatory handson experience using AIassisted development tools such as Cursor, Devin AI, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot or equivalent for rapid development and code quality improvement. 

 

 

 

 

Experience Desired: 

  • Experience with microservices, eventdriven architectures, or messaging systems. 

  • Knowledge of application security best practices (OAuth, JWT, secure API design). 

  • Experience with automated testing frameworks (JUnit, Mockito, Cypress, Playwright, etc.). 

  • Knowledge and/or experience with Health care information domains preferred 

 

Education and Training Required: 

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) required.

  • AWS, Git, Lambda, design patterns. 

  • Design and architect the solution independently and deliver to production with AI automation mindset. 

  • Take ownership and accountability. 

  • Assist with Cloud Center of Excellence (CoE) and Cigna Information Protection (CIP) on application and design reviews to ensure successful Production deployments. 

  • Have a quality mindset, not just code quality but also to ensure ongoing application/data quality by monitoring data to identify problems before they have business impact 

  • Take risks and champion new ideas.
