About Converge
Converge fuses cyber insurance security and technology to provide businesses with clear, confident cyber protection. Deploying a proprietary data ecosystem underpinned by expert underwriting, it provides risk solutions that deliver high value strategies with improved outcomes. Our team is composed of top-tier professionals across underwriting, technology, and claims who share a passion for driving the future of cyber risk management.
Position Overview
As a Mid Software Engineer at Converge, you will help design, build, and scale the technology platform that drives our cyber insurance business. Reporting to our Head of Engineering, you will work across a modern full-stack codebase, collaborate closely with underwriting, actuarial, and data teams, and contribute to AI-powered features that give our underwriters an analytical edge.
You are a technically strong engineer who takes pride in clean, tested code and is energized by the challenge of building mission-critical software in a fast-moving startup environment. You understand that what you ship directly impacts our ability to assess and price cyber risk — and you take that responsibility seriously.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain features across our core insurance platform, including quoting, policy management, and broker-facing workflows.
- Contribute to the development of AI-powered underwriting tools that analyze cyber risk signals and surface actionable insights.
- Integrate with third-party data providers, insurance APIs, and risk analytics platforms (e.g., KYND) to enrich our data ecosystem.
- Write clean, well-tested, and well-documented code across the full stack in collaboration with senior engineers.
- Participate in design discussions and architectural decisions with a security-conscious mindset, consistent with our SOC 2 compliance posture.
- Work in close partnership with underwriting and actuarial teams to translate domain requirements into robust technical implementations.
- Engage actively in code reviews, sprint planning, and retrospectives as part of an agile, cross-functional team.
- Help identify technical debt and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement in engineering quality and reliability.
- Champion data integrity and system reliability across the platform, with an eye toward scalability as Converge grows.
Requirements
- 2–5 years of professional software engineering experience in a production environment.
- Proficiency in Python and/or TypeScript; comfortable working across the stack.
- Solid grasp of relational databases, RESTful API design, and data modeling.
- Experience building and shipping features in an agile team environment.
- Strong written communication skills — you can articulate technical tradeoffs clearly to non-engineers.
- A genuine interest in the intersection of technology and risk — you want to understand the domain, not just write the code.
- Security-aware mindset: you write code with data protection and access control in mind.
- Competency with AWS, Docker, Apache Airflow, Neo4j, GraphQL, and CDNs.
- Proficient understanding of version control best practices using Git.
Nice to Have
- Experience in insurance, fintech, or other regulated industries.
- Familiarity with AI/ML integrations, LLM APIs, or building intelligence into business workflows.
- Experience with event-driven architectures, webhooks, or third-party data integrations.
- Knowledge of cyber security concepts (vulnerability scanning, threat intelligence, security scoring).
- Exposure to SOC 2 or other compliance frameworks.
- Previous experience at a startup or high-growth tech company.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Ability to lift up to 15 pounds occasionally.
- Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
Compensation & Benefits
- Pay Range: $5000 – $7200 annually (commensurate with experience and location).
