Our Engineering Team architects the underlying platform, core services, infrastructure, dev toolkits, core algorithms, machine learning models, packaged end-user apps, and an AI marketplace. Instabase engineers are excited to solve hard problems for complex organizations and are self-starters from day one.
As a Senior Software Engineer you will lead initiatives that improve the development experience across our engineering organization. In this role, you will design and build scalable internal tools, optimize developer workflows, and drive strategic improvements in CI/CD, test infrastructure, and build systems. In this role, you will design and build reliable, scalable, repeatable systems that allow engineers to iterate quickly, and ship high quality code reliably.
You will collaborate closely with infrastructure, SRE, and product engineering teams to identify bottlenecks and eliminate friction throughout the software development lifecycle. As a senior engineer, you’ll set technical direction, mentor others, and take ownership of high-impact, cross-cutting productivity initiatives.
This is a high-leverage role ideal for someone passionate about developer enablement, infrastructure, and creating fast, reliable, and joyful engineering workflows.
What you’ll do:
- Drive the design and implementation of internal tools and services to improve developer efficiency, reliability, and satisfaction.
- Own the evolution of our CI/CD pipelines, build/test systems, and development environments.
- Identify friction in developer workflows and lead data-driven improvements across teams.
- Build platforms that enable safe, self-service deployment, testing, and observability.
- Establish best practices for test stability, build speed, code quality, and incident recovery.
- Lead cross-functional efforts with infra, security, and product engineering teams to scale engineering practices.
- Mentor engineers and influence engineering culture through tooling, process, and automation.
About you:
- BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, or equivalent experience in a technical field such as Physics or Mathematics.
- 5+ years of professional experience in software engineering, including 2+ years focused on internal tooling, infrastructure, or developer experience.
- Strong proficiency in one or more programming/scripting languages (e.g., Python, Go, TypeScript, Bash).
- Deep experience with build systems (e.g., Bazel, Pants, Gradle) and monorepo strategies.
- Proven track record building and maintaining CI/CD systems (e.g., GitHub Actions, Buildkit, Jenkins, etc.)
- Experience with Docker and container-based dev environments.
- Experience designing developer-facing tools (CLIs, dashboards, bots, APIs) used by multiple teams.
- Strong problem-solving, debugging, and systems-thinking skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication; comfortable driving collaboration across teams.
- Ability to lead projects independently and mentor other engineers.
- Familiarity with cloud infrastructure and IaC tools (e.g., Terraform, Pulumi).
