Leidos’ High Fidelity Simulation Business Area designs and delivers cutting-edge system-of-systems solutions that power world-class simulation, training, and analysis products for the U.S. Navy.
In this role, based at a U.S. Government facility in Bethesda, MD, you will work with state-of-the-art technologies to develop advanced sonar tactical decision aids (TDAs) that directly support the Fleet. You’ll be part of a high-performing team whose mission-critical work shapes the Navy’s tactical edge—making a tangible impact on national security.
At Leidos, we empower our engineers to do meaningful work while continually building new skills to grow the career they want to achieve.
What You’ll Work On
- Develop and enhance Tactical Signature Guidance (TSG) systems, including sonar TDAs across multiple code baselines.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex software challenges while contributing innovative solutions.
- Learn and apply new programming languages and technologies, with mentorship and support from experienced teammates.
- Occasionally support hardware system configuration and build-out, gaining exposure to full system integration.
This opportunity is ideal for developers who thrive on solving complex problems, want to expand their technical expertise, and are motivated by work that directly supports the U.S. Navy’s operational readiness.
Primary Responsibilities
- Work collaboratively in an agile team environment supporting a large-scale program.
- Own and deliver software solutions in Java, React, C++, and other modern languages.
- Learn and apply new technologies (e.g., Angular, Rust, Scala) to meet evolving needs.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues with efficient solutions.
- Adapt quickly to shifting priorities and support urgent requests when needed.
- Communicate clearly with teammates, stakeholders, and leadership.
- Travel occasionally to Manassas, VA for integration and team collaboration.
Required Qualifications
- At least 3 years of hands-on professional experience developing and maintaining production applications using React. Experience in similar component-based frameworks (e.g., Vue.js, Angular, Svelte) that demonstrates the ability to quickly adopt React is acceptable.
- Familiarity with making REST API calls from front-end code and working with returned data.
- Working knowledge of Scala and/or Rust, demonstrated through projects, open-source contributions, or technical discussion (no minimum years of experience required).
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field that provides strong software development skills.
- Clearance: Must be able to obtain a U.S. security clearance.
- Certification: Must be willing to earn an IAT Level I (or higher) certification after hire (company-supported).
At Leidos, we don’t want someone who "fits the mold"—we want someone who melts it down and builds something better. This is a role for the restless, the over-caffeinated, the ones who ask, “what’s next?” before the dust settles on “what’s now.”
If you’re already scheming step 20 while everyone else is still debating step 2… good. You’ll fit right in.
