About the job
This position is needed to build and operate data and analytics systems for Twilio. We do this by leveraging technologies like Go, Kafka, ClickHouse, Docker, Kubernetes, AWS Aurora/MySQL, ProxySQL, DynamoDB, and Snowflake. We are looking to grow the team to help create new offerings and scale/support existing offerings through tooling and automation.
Our team designs, builds and maintains highly scalable, reliable and comprehensive logging and analytics software services that empower Twilio customers and are essential for Twilio's services. Our systems process over 1 million events per second on an average day. We are looking for a talented and passionate individual to help create analytical and logging services leveraging Go, Kafka, and Clickhouse. You will be part of a team that builds and operates a data ingestion and query pipeline ingesting over 6TB a day, ensuring day-to-day reliability and performance. You will be working on building large distributed systems that leverage modern technologies, cloud and be part of an amazing and supportive team.
Responsibilities
In this role, you’ll:
- EMPOWER OTHERS: Develop standards, procedures, tools to deploy, configure, and operate databases in a large-scale environment
- WEAR THE CUSTOMER’S SHOES: Build services that provide troubleshooting and insights for customers to help them solve complex problems
- BE AN OWNER: Perform thorough and thoughtful code reviews to help maintain a high standard of code quality
- BE AN OWNER: Identify key system metrics and ensure adequate monitoring coverage for new and existing data storage and analytical services
- EMPOWER OTHERS: Work with teams across the company to troubleshoot/determine resolution for complex issues
- DRAW THE OWL: Be creative, take your own initiative, and solve some of our most challenging problems
- EMPOWER OTHERS: Promote a DevOps culture that is driving massively scalable, highly reliable, resilient services in a fast-growing customer and engineering-focused company.
Qualifications

Required:
- Proficiency with Go or similar typed programming languages (Java, C++, Rust, etc)
- Ability to implement reliable, maintainable components
- Automation-minded; experience automating processes and administrative tasks
- A highly effective collaborator, you work with your team and help drive team towards common goals
- Self-driven; take complete ownership of your tasks and champion efforts to get your tasks to completion
- Degree in Computer Science or similar experience work experience
Desired:
- Experience with Docker, and/or Kubernetes, or other containerization technologies
- Experience with Terraform or similar configuration management tools
- Experience with Clickhouse or other OLAP database systems
- Experience with Kafka or other distributed logging systems
- Experience with AWS or other cloud infrastructure providers (GCP, Azure)
Location
This role will be Remote in the USA but is not eligible to be hired in CA, NY, WA, PA, CT.
Travel
We prioritize connections and opportunities to build relationships with our customers and each other. For this role, you may be required to travel occasionally to participate in project or team in-person meetings.

*Please note this role is open to candidates outside of Colorado, California, New York, Washington and Washington D.C. The information below is provided for candidates hired in those locations only.
The estimated pay ranges for this role are as follows:
- Based in Colorado or Washington D.C. : $120,000 annually
- Based in New York, Washington State, or California (outside of the San Francisco Bay area): $126,500 annually
- Based in the San Francisco Bay area, California: $141,000 annually
- This role may be eligible to participate in Twilio’s equity plan and corporate bonus plan. All roles are generally eligible for the following benefits: health care insurance, 401(k) retirement account, paid sick time, paid personal time off, paid parental leave.
The successful candidate’s starting salary will be determined based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as skills, experience, and geographic location.
