Flatmates.com.au helps people find share accommodation and start their property journey. You’ll join a cross-functional squad focused on delivering valuable features for our users. The house share market is important to REA because it is the start of the property journey for many people. At Flatmates.com.au, our vision is to create the best shared living experiences and to be consumers’ number one stop for all things share accommodation.
What the role is all about
- Design, build, and maintain Android features in Kotlin, from discovery through to release and ongoing support.
- Collaborate with Product, Design, and SMEs to shape scope, trade-offs, and incremental delivery that maximises user value.
- Write high-quality, testable code; participate in code reviews, pairing, and knowledge sharing.
- Own features end-to-end: functionality, performance, accessibility, analytics, experimentation, and release readiness.
- Be curious and adaptable: at times you may learn and contribute beyond Android to move features forward, with support from peers and the broader mobile community.
- Contribute to shared mobile platform components and standards; collaborate with the broader REA mobile community.
- Participate in release cadence, triage, and production support; improve observability and reliability.
- Create and maintain technical documentation and runbooks.
Who we’re looking for
- Solid Android experience (around 3–5 years or equivalent impact) with Kotlin as your primary language.
- Strong UI engineering skills, including motion/animation, accessibility, and performance awareness.
- Pragmatic testing and continuous delivery mindset.
- Product engineering mindset: you prioritise user value, own outcomes, and learn what’s needed to ship.
- Collaborative, low-ego communication; comfortable pairing and giving/receiving feedback.
- Willingness to learn and contribute beyond Android (basic backend/web/iOS) when it helps the team deliver.
- Curiosity and practice in AI-augmented engineering to improve efficiency and quality.
- Experience working in a dynamic, agile environment.
