About the Role:
We are seeking a skilled Backend Software Engineer with a strong Java background to join our Reaxys engineering team. You will contribute to the development of scalable, distributed systems powering our chemistry data platform. You will work in a global environment, collaborating with colleagues across continents, and leveraging the latest AI-powered development tools.
Responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services using Java (preferably Java 21+).
Build and deploy distributed systems on AWS and Kubernetes.
Take ownership of technical initiatives, proof-of-concepts, or research efforts, and communicate findings to the team.
Collaborate closely with frontend, DevOps, and architecture teams.
Participate in technical reviews, incident resolution, and process improvements.
Embrace and effectively use AI coding agents (e.g., Amazon Q, GitHub Copilot) to enhance productivity.
Requirements:
Master's or equivalent degree in Computer Science or allied fields
3+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a strong emphasis on backend Java development.
Experience with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions), application security tools, and automated testing frameworks.
Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams and presenting technical ideas or research.
Proven problem-solving skills, including debugging and production issue resolution.
Strong communication skills in English.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience leading small initiatives or working independently.
Participation in technical communities, meetups, or internal presentations.
Experience in complex, data-heavy domains, ideally scientific or chemical fields.
