We are looking for a Software Engineer III to join our App team! In this role you will work closely with our front-end developers to build the next generation of our back-end services to support our growing business and new products.
Shipping & Handling responsibilities:
- Design, implement, test, and deploy high-volume backend services with high SLAs
- Ensure scalability and maintainability through microservices, decoupled architectures, queuing, and containerized deployments
- Enhance CI/CD pipelines for safe, automated, and reliable releases
- Monitor and optimize performance for responsiveness and throughput
- Refactor and architect system components for optimal performance and reuse
- Participate in peer reviews, design discussions, and contribute to automated test suites
- Provide technical insights in planning and review to streamline delivery
- Participate in on-call rotation and respond quickly to incidents
- Assist in gathering requirements and ensuring alignment from design through verification
Requirements
- 4+ years of backend software development experience
- Proven success building and supporting scalable APIs, services, or applications
- Proficiency in server-side languages (Go, Python, Java, Ruby) and SQL
- Experience with MVC frameworks (Django, .NET, Spring, Rails, Phoenix)
- Familiarity with NoSQL technologies (DynamoDB) and event-driven cloud architectures (queues, serverless compute, data streaming)
- Solid understanding of OOP, design patterns, and architectural best practices
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) is a plus
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams
- Passion for building reliable, scalable systems with a focus on customer impact
- BS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Advanced English proficiency
Bonus
- Experience in shipping or logistics
- API integration expertise (REST, GraphQL, gRPC)
- Familiarity with Django
- Experience with DevOps tools (Docker, Terraform, CircleCI, New Relic, PagerDuty)

This means, through our remote-first program, “Shippos Everywhere”, our roles can be based anywhere in the US with the exception of Delaware, Nevada, Ohio, Oregon, Hawaii, New Mexico and West Virginia and many roles can be based internationally.
