We are looking for a Software Engineer II to join our team within Planning Solutions on the Comprehensive Asset Allocation (CAA) team.
Our department, Planning Solutions is responsible for the proprietary financial planning platform that lets our advisors deliver multifaceted, dynamic and comprehensive plans that uniquely showcase our conviction for financial planning with insurance and investment solutions.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Applies engineering standard methodologies to analyze and develop software solutions.
  • Develops software using established development and continuous integration practices.
  • Designs, coordinates, and drives high impact solutions across teams both within and outside their division.
  • Establishes, aggregates, and shares enterprise standards and best practices.
  • Conducts code evaluations.


Qualifications and Requirements:

  • 2-4 years professional experience required.
  • 2-4 years of experience working with modern engineering tools, languages and practices (e.g. React, TypeScript, Node, Java/Kotlin, Springboot, REST and GraphQL.
  • Database Experience in MongoDB, Postgres, Kafka
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
  • Familiarity using continuous integration and deployment concepts.
  • Strong technical skills.
  • Understanding of your business domain.
  • Able to mentor new team members.
  • Can communicate clearly to the business.


Desired Past Experience:

  • Full stack (frontend/backend) software development projects within an enterprise
  • Integration with various internal & external APIs that have a deep business domain.
  • Past experience at a financial services company, insurance company or bank with a knowledge of financial products and/or banking systems.

Compensation Range:
Pay Range - Start:
$82,670.00
Pay Range - End:
$153,530.00
Northwestern Mutual pays on a geographic-specific salary structure and placement in the salary range for this position will be determined by a number of factors including the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; the scope, complexity as well as the cost of labor in the market; and other conditions of employment. At Northwestern Mutual, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. Please note that the salary range listed in the posting is the standard pay structure. Positions in certain locations (such as California) may provide an increase on the standard pay structure based on the location.
