Overview
Ready to shape the future of how Microsoft operates its ~$250B+ business portfolio?
Are you passionate about AI, data, and transformative user experiences? Do you bring energy, curiosity, and a sense of ownership to your work?
The Finance Data & Experiences (FD&E) organization is on a mission to redefine how Microsoft measures, monitors, and optimizes its global business, and we’re looking for top talent to join us. This is a unique opportunity to lead with bold ideas, apply cutting-edge technology, and work across Finance, Sales, Marketing, Business Operations, and Product Engineering to deliver high-impact business solutions. The right candidate will thrive in fast-paced, cross-functional environments, bring fresh thinking to complex problems, and be eager to learn, take ownership of end-to-end processes, and deliver outcomes.
At FD&E, you will help build reliable, scalable, and secure data solutions that power decision-making, business insights, automation, and AI-driven experiences. You will work across data engineering and software engineering disciplines, contributing to data pipelines, data platforms, services, analytics products, and engineering systems that support Microsoft’s global business.
Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. As employees, we come together with a growth mindset, innovate to empower others, and collaborate to realize our shared goals. Each day, we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond.

Responsibilities
As a Software Engineer II at Microsoft, you will be part of a team of engineers who build and run the Azure infrastructure behind FD&E. This is a software engineering role with real site reliability ownership: you write the code and the infrastructure, ship it through your own pipelines, and keep it healthy in production.
  • Design, develop, deploy, and operate scalable cloud based data, analytics, automation, and tooling solutions on modern Azure data platforms, owning each one end to end through design, implementation, and operations.
  • Build, manage, and maintain Azure infrastructure across environments, covering compute, networking, storage, identity, certificates, and service dependencies, and adapt engineering practices to security and compliance constrained environments.
  • Define infrastructure as code with ARM, Bicep, or Terraform, and build, maintain, and troubleshoot YAML based Azure DevOps build and release pipelines with automated test gates, security scanning, and safe deployment with rollback.
  • Drive engineering excellence and service reliability through design, testing, observability, and deep diagnostics using logs, metrics, telemetry, and Kusto (KQL).
  • Instrument what you build with monitoring, logging, alerting, and insightful dashboards so issues are caught proactively, and use telemetry and usage analytics to understand customer behavior and inform product decisions.
  • Support live site operations, including on call, incident triage, root cause analysis, and driving issues to resolution, then automate the toil that causes repeat incidents.
  • Engineer for cost as well as reliability, using rightsizing, scheduling, and automated detection of idle or oversized Azure resources.
  • Integrate AI capabilities such as Azure OpenAI and Copilot tooling to make engineering and operations workflows faster and more intelligent.
  • Collaborate across stakeholders, product managers, and engineers, contribute to the evolution of Microsoft's data platforms through technical feedback and innovation, and champion a culture of diversity, inclusion, customer obsession, and continuous learning.
