Overview

Microsoft Cloud Operations + Innovation is the team behind the infrastructure that powers Microsoft’s cloud. Within the organization, our engineering teams build secure, scalable, and intelligent platforms that support complex planning, execution, and operational workflows for Microsoft’s capacity delivery and expansion plans. We own a large portfolio of services, and CO+I Engineering is a competitive advantage for Microsoft and an important pillar in its cloud success.

We are looking for a passionate, innovative, and collaborative Software Engineer II with solid full-stack development experience. You will work through ambiguity, solve complex technical problems, and build automation and workflow capabilities that support the delivery of large-scale data center capacity. You will partner closely with product managers, engineering teams, and business stakeholders to translate requirements into reliable, maintainable, and intuitive software solutions. Experience with Microsoft Power Platform or Dynamics 365 is a plus but not required.

Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. As employees, we come together with a growth mindset, innovate to empower others, and collaborate to realize our shared goals. Each day, we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with product managers, engineering teams, and business stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into reliable, maintainable, and intuitive software solutions.
  • Design, develop, test, deploy, and operate modern web applications using C#, .NET, ASP.NET Core, REST APIs, and front-end technologies such as React, TypeScript, JavaScript, or comparable frameworks.
  • Apply solid engineering fundamentals, including automation, observability, testing, resiliency, security, accessibility, and secure-by-default design throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Design and implement secure service integrations using REST APIs, OpenAPI specifications, OAuth 2.0, Microsoft Entra ID, managed identities, role-based access control, and API management patterns.
  • Build AI-powered applications and agents using Microsoft Foundry, Foundry Agent Service, Azure OpenAI, Azure AI Search, Microsoft Agent Framework, or related technologies, including grounding, tool integration, evaluation, monitoring, and responsible AI practices.
  • Use AI-assisted development tools and practices to accelerate requirements analysis, coding, code review, testing, debugging, documentation, modernization, and live-site investigation.
  • Develop tools and integrations that securely connect AI experiences with enterprise APIs, data sources, workflows, and business systems while following identity, authorization, data protection, and least-privilege principles.
  • Partner with other engineering teams to identify dependencies, troubleshoot system-integration challenges, and contribute to technical designs for applications, services, APIs, and platform capabilities.
  • Participate in design and code reviews, release planning, testing, deployment, telemetry implementation, and production-readiness activities.
  • Participate in live-site and DRI rotations, investigate service issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement durable fixes that improve service reliability and operational health.
  • Learn and apply emerging engineering and AI patterns that improve system availability, observability, security, performance, evaluation quality, and operational consistency.
  • Share reusable code, agent tools, evaluation assets, engineering practices, and technical learnings with the broader engineering community.
