Pumpkin is looking for a Software Engineer - Engineering Platforms to play a crucial role in revolutionizing pet care by developing cutting-edge software solutions that significantly improve the lives of pets, their owners, and veterinarians. Your infrastructure expertise will support the creation of scalable, reliable, and high-performance applications that consistently meet business needs and exceed user expectations. By optimizing system infrastructure, delivery pipelines, and data structures, you will contribute directly to the delivery of exceptional pet care through technology.
This role is a remote for those outside of a commutable distance of the New York City office. Some travel will be required. Individuals located in the NYC area will be considered hybrid, with a minimum requirement of 2 days a week in the office.
What You'll Do:
- Design and build scalable and resilient systems that can keep up with company growth & new products
- Harden the platform against security threats and resource contention issues
- Improve our Gitlab systems and deployment processes
- Work with app teams to understand their potential challenges and help them choose the best way to architect their systems
- Help respond and prevent incidents impacting core platforms
What We're Looking For:
- 3+ years of software engineering experience with a focus on platform-, deployment-, or observability- centered engineering.
- Ability to work with codebases in Bash, Python, and Javascript
- Excellent debugging skills in a Linux environment
- Experience managing and deploying onto cloud-based production Kubernetes or similar orchestration platforms
- The ability to break down complex problems into smaller pieces, provide options, talk through trade-offs and drive the effort to solve the problem
- Experience working with monitoring platforms like Sentry and Grafana
- Experience with hosting & optimizing MySql and/or PostgresQL
Bonus Points:
- Familiarity with security standards and practices and/or regulated industry
- Experience working with Gitlab pipelines
- Understanding of hosting pages & systems in Cloudflare
- Worked in both a platform engineering team/ engineering productivity team and a full-stack development team in the past.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS and Azure
- Familiarity with low-level protocols and concepts (HTTP, TLS, load balancers and basic networking.)
The compensation for this position ranges from $100,000- $140,000 (annually). Compensation may vary outside the listed range, based on a number of factors including but not limited to location, qualifications, performance, skills, and experience. The compensation range listed is just one component of Pumpkin’s total compensation package for employees. Total compensation packages, depending on the position, may also include incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, and other short or long-term incentives. If hired, employees will be in an ‘at-will position’ and Pumpkin reserves the right to modify compensation (as well as any other discretionary payment or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
