Description

BigHat Biosciences is seeking an exceptional individual for the role of Software Engineer, Data Ops. This role is targeted at someone who is ready to dive deep into our computational engine and enhance its capabilities to meet the evolving demands of our scientific programs as they produce, characterize, and optimize safer therapeutic antibodies. As the first Software Engineer, Data Ops, you will play a critical role in accelerating our scientific and program progress. This position is an extraordinary opportunity to blend software engineering skills with direct operational impact within our scientific endeavors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and enhance end-user applications, directly collaborating with stakeholders such as program team leads, wet lab scientists, and data science/machine learning teams to understand and swiftly address their needs.
  • Play a key role in the design, development, and maintenance of software solutions that support the tactical and strategic goals of our therapeutic programs.
  • Work closely with members of the science organization to quickly adapt and build solutions, ensuring the smooth cadence of program operations.
  • Triage and resolve issues in collaboration with team members, reducing dependencies on the product engineering teams and minimizing interruptions.
  • Leading the development lifecycle, including planning, coding, testing, deployment, and maintenance, ensuring high-quality and timely deliverables.
  • Automate core services in the AWS cloud, working with the data science and machine learning teams to productionize analysis, training, and inference pipelines.

This role reports directly to the manager of the engineering team that supports the data science, machine learning, and program teams. You'll also be working closely with the product owner of the same team, and will have responsibilities focused on developing software on top of our product/platform to drive the progress of our scientific programs.

Skills Knowledge and Expertise

  • You have a solid foundation in software development, with experience in full-stack development and a willingness to engage in both frontend and backend projects.
  • You're a quick learner, eager to absorb new technologies and frameworks that enhance our operational capabilities.
  • Your problem-solving skills are top-notch, with a knack for identifying and implementing solutions swiftly and efficiently.
  • You have excellent communication skills, able to liaise effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • A passion for technology and innovation drives you, and you're always looking to refine your skills and knowledge.

Relevant Tech/Skills:

  • Typescript, React, Material-UI, Vega
  • Python 3, SQLAlchemy
  • Experience with cloud services, preferably AWS
  • Familiarity with RDBMS, such as PostgreSQL, and software development tools and practices
  • Domain knowledge around drug discovery, antibody engineering, protein science, or related biology
