Job Description

As a Web Development Engineer, you will be part of a collaborative engineering team responsible for building, enhancing, and maintaining modern web applications. You will work closely with product managers, designers, and backend engineers to deliver scalable, reliable, and user-friendly experiences across FOX's digital platforms.

You will contribute to the development of high-quality software, participate in technical discussions, and help ensure our applications meet both functional and non-functional requirements. 

We’re looking for like-minded people for news-focused initiatives within the Emerging Technologies organization. This role helps extend and evolve digital products that support newsroom workflows, content discovery, and audience engagement. 

Key Responsibilities

Develop and Maintain Applications

• Build and maintain web applications using modern web technologies such as React, Node.js, TypeScript, Next.js, and related frameworks.

• Implement new features and enhancements based on product and business requirements.

• Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code.

Collaboration

• Partner with UX/UI designers, product managers, and backend engineers to deliver cohesive user experiences.

• Participate in design discussions, sprint planning, and technical reviews.

Code Quality

• Participate in peer code reviews and incorporate feedback to maintain engineering standards.

• Follow established coding guidelines, development processes, and best practices.

Performance and Reliability

• Help identify and resolve performance issues, bugs, and usability concerns.

• Contribute to application stability, scalability, and maintainability.

Testing and Debugging

• Develop and maintain unit, integration, and end-to-end tests.

• Troubleshoot production issues and support ongoing application improvements.

Security and Documentation

• Follow security best practices to protect user data and application integrity.

• Contribute to technical documentation and knowledge sharing within the team.

What You'll Need

Experience

• 2–4 years of professional experience building web applications.

Technical Skills

• Experience with modern frontend frameworks such as React.

• Experience with JavaScript/TypeScript and modern web development practices.

• Familiarity with backend technologies such as Node.js and RESTful APIs.

• Understanding of responsive design and modern web standards.

Problem Solving

• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.

• Ability to learn new technologies and adapt to evolving requirements.

Version Control

• Experience working with Git and collaborative development workflows.

Development Practices

• Familiarity with Agile development methodologies and CI/CD processes.

Communication

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment.

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).

Nice to Have

• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.

• Familiarity with containerization technologies such as Docker.

• Experience with testing frameworks such as Jest, Cypress, or Playwright.

• Understanding of DevOps and infrastructure concepts.

• Interest in UI/UX best practices and accessible web design.

• Contributions to open-source projects or personal technical projects.
