The Opportunity
As a Senior SDET, you will be instrumental in embedding a quality-focused culture within Sitetracker's Engineering team. Working closely with 10-15 software engineers, you’ll coach and empower them to take ownership of code quality, championing best practices that drive reliable software solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
Champion Quality Culture: Advocate for a shared responsibility for quality, ensuring engineers are accountable for testing and validation.
Coach and Mentor: Elevate team skills by training engineers on testing methodologies, tools, and best practices, elevating the team's overall competency in quality assurance.
Enforce Testing Standards: Establish and uphold rigorous testing standards and processes, across all development activities.
Collaborate Cross-functionally: Integrate testing within the development lifecycle, working with engineers, product managers, and stakeholders.
Develop Testing Strategies: Design and implement comprehensive testing approaches covering unit, integration, performance, and security testing.
Review and Audit: Conduct code reviews and test audits to ensure quality benchmarks are met.
Lead Automation Initiatives: Drive the adoption of test automation frameworks and tools, reducing reliance on manual testing and increasing efficiency.
Identify Gaps and Solutions: Proactively identify areas where testing practices can be improved and develop actionable plans to address these gaps.
Stay Current: Keep updated on the latest trends and advancements in software testing and quality assurance, applying this knowledge to enhance our practices.
The Skill Set
- Extensive Experience: 7+ years in software development/testing, with leadership in quality for SaaS environments.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong programming skills (Java, JS, TypeScript, Python, or similar) and experience with testing frameworks.
- Automation Tools: Proficiency in tools like Jest, Playwright, Cucumber, POSTMAN, WebDriver, BrowserStack, and Appium 2.0.
- Leadership: Proven ability to drive testing standards and accountability across teams.
- CI/CD Knowledge: Familiarity with CI/CD tools and practices.
- Agile Methodologies: Background in Agile/Scrum.
- Communication Skills: Ability to convey complex ideas effectively to varied audiences.
- Problem-Solving: Skilled in diagnosing quality issues and implementing solutions.
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Salesforce Experience: Salesforce certifications or experience in testing Salesforce customizations.
- Advanced Education: Master’s in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Cloud and Microservices: Familiarity with platforms like Heroku, Salesforce, AWS, Azure, and microservices architecture.
- Industry Experience: Knowledge in telecommunications, utilities, asset management, finance, or energy is a plus.
Within 90 Days, You'll
- Deep Dive into Sitetracker: Attain a comprehensive understanding of the Sitetracker platform, architecture, and current testing practices.
- Relationship Building: Establish strong working relationships with engineers and stakeholders, understanding their workflows and challenges.
- Assessment: Evaluate existing testing processes, identifying immediate opportunities for improvement.
Within 180 Days, You'll
- Strategy Implementation: Develop and roll out enhanced testing strategies, frameworks, and standards across the Engineering team.
- Empower Engineers: Equip engineers with the tools, knowledge, and support needed to take ownership of testing and quality assurance.
- Quality Metrics: Introduce metrics to measure testing effectiveness, code quality, and areas for further improvement.
Within 365 Days, You'll
- Cultural Shift: Successfully embed a culture where quality is ingrained in every aspect of development, reducing defects and enhancing product reliability.
- Continuous Improvement: Establish ongoing training programs and knowledge-sharing sessions to keep the team updated on best practices.
