We are looking for a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to join our team within Planning Solutions on the Comprehensive Asset Allocation (CAA) team.
Our department, Planning Solution is responsible for the proprietary financial planning platform that lets our advisors deliver multifaceted, dynamic and comprehensive plans that uniquely showcase our conviction for financial planning with insurance and investment solutions.
As a technical, hands-on Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) your job is to participate in the manual & automation testing of NM's proprietary financial planning software. Your role will be that of a "full-stack" Test Engineer, someone who has a strong appreciation and skill in software engineering with the capability of building testing frameworks, contributing to manual and automated test suites and providing solutions to optimize test frameworks. You will create test strategies, work on POC and identifying right tools and develop CI/CD pipelines. You will work closely with software developers and product managers to help build and improve our planning tools.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with multi-functional teams by working closely with software developers, product managers, and quality assurance engineers to understand product requirements and define test strategies.
  • Test planning and strategy by participating in the development of test plans and strategies, identifying key areas for automation and ensuring adequate test coverage across various components of the software system.
  • Test framework development by designing, developing, and maintaining robust automated test frameworks and test suites using industry-standard tools and programming languages. Continuously enhance existing frameworks to improve test efficiency, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Code Review: Actively participate in the code review process
  • Test case creation and execution: Build detailed and comprehensive test cases based on requirements and design specifications. Complete test cases, analyze test results, and report defects in a timely manner.
  • Continuous integration and delivery: Integrate automated tests into the continuous integration and delivery pipelines, ensuring that tests are driven efficiently and consistently as part of the software development process.
  • Test automation advocacy: Promote and educate the team on standard methodologies for test automation, test-driven development (TDD), and continuous integration to improve the overall quality and efficiency of the development process.
  • Continuous learning: Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends, tools, and techniques related to software testing and quality assurance. Continuously enhance your skills and knowledge through self-learning and professional development activities.
  • Release support: Participate in Production Deploys and Releases. Be familiar with active Production issues, and assist with testing, review, or automation changes based on issue priority.


Qualifications and Requirements:

  • 4+ years of coding experience in Javascript / Node.js
  • Experience with Testing Automation Tools and Frameworks such as: Webdriver IO, Cucumber, Sauce Labs, Mocha, Applitools, etc.
  • Proficient in REST API, Microservices, and API integration testing
  • Working knowledge of automation test framework (e.g. Playwright, Selenium, Cucumber, Webdriver IO)
  • Understanding of version control using git
  • Experience in working with databases
  • Develop scalable and reliable automated tests and frameworks for testing
  • Capable of leading test automation efforts with minimal supervision
  • Experience in how to demonstrate and configure a CI/CD Pipeline with Gitlab/Jenkins for test automation
  • As our scope broadens & we tackle migration work between our test suites, it's good to gain familiarity with the unit & integration test suites for each of our apps.
  • Understanding the software development life cycle and agile/waterfall methodologies
  • Excellent understanding of REST architecture and HTTP response codes
  • Solid understanding of HTTP calls, and web and browser debugging skills are needed
  • Must be passionate about clean code and test automation for successful releases
  • Ability to grasp new software architectures and technology quickly
  • Ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple tasks and projects
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate optimally in a team environment
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and creative thinking skills.
  • Fix quality issues and modify test procedures
  • Experience with tools such as Jira and Confluence


Nice-to-haves:

  • Prior experience with Performance Testing
  • Proficiency in Java / Python
  • Experience with AWS

Pay Range - Start:
$82,670.00
Pay Range - End:
$153,530.00
