You find reward in building robust software that can function 24/7 with no down time. If you love technology, are passionate about creating software, SDKs and APIs and are keen on contributing to open source projects - we would love to hear from you.

What you'll do:

As a Software Developer at Geotab on the infrastructure team you will be part of a team who are responsible for ensuring the reliability of our application. We achieve this by leveraging cutting-edge technologies to enhance availability and scalability. Our work is project-based and highly collaborative, involving a diverse group of roles and cultures to meet the demands and expertise required.
We are currently searching for a highly motivated Software Developer who thrives in a fast-paced environment. Our key areas of ownership include mission-critical components of the application, such as our reverse proxy, as well as significant integrations that the main application relies on to function.
While we are not a DevOps team, our focus is on ensuring that our application can seamlessly run in different environments and configurations. Most recently, we have been working on distributing the monolith within Kubernetes. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with many key stakeholders within the organization, providing immense opportunities for growth.

How you'll make an impact:

  • Translate application storyboards and use cases into functional applications.
  • Perform Test-Driven and Security-Driven Development.
  • Conduct comprehensive code reviews and ensure that coding standards are followed.
  • Analyze call stacks, trace files, debug logs or performance data to troubleshoot and identify the root cause of bugs.
  • Participate in development of prototypes, minimum viable products and PoCs.
  • Help maintain code quality, organization and automation.
  • Perform maintenance programming for existing applications.
  • Ensure the functionality, performance, scalability, reliability, realistic implementation schedules and system architecture for each assignment.
  • Provide design documents and documentation to ensure efficient maintenance and code reuse.
  • Provide recommendations for improvements in the overall development process.
  • Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotating schedule (if applicable).

What you'll bring to the role:

  • Extensive experience developing high-performance applications with C# and .NET.
  • Deep understanding of relational database concepts, schema design, and query optimization techniques.
  • Hands-on experience with Postgres, including performance tuning, query analysis, and index optimization.
  • Proven ability to identify and resolve performance bottlenecks in database-driven applications.
  • Familiarity with scaling applications and databases in cloud environments (e.g., using cloud-native services, autoscaling).
  • Experience with test-driven development (TDD) to ensure high-quality code and reliable solutions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective collaboration and knowledge sharing.
  • Experience with high-throughput data ingestion and processing.
  • Experience with techniques for scaling databases (e.g., sharding, replication) and ensuring high availability.
  • Familiarity with cloud computing platforms (GCP, AWS, Azure).
  • Experience with other relevant technologies (e.g., .NET Core, SQL Server).
  • Experience working with Linux and scripting (e.g., bash).

If you got this far, we hope you're feeling excited about this role! Even if you don't feel you meet every single requirement, we still encourage you to apply.
