ABOUT THE TEAM & ROLE:
Swiggy Instamart’s Supply Chain Fulfilment team builds and operates the systems that power workforce management and pod fulfillment. These systems sit close to day-to-day operations and need to work reliably at scale while evolving quickly with the business.
We’re looking for a strong, hands-on engineer to lead technical execution across a team of 8–10 engineers. This is an individual-contributor role: you’ll set technical direction, break down outcomes into clear work, delegate and coordinate execution, coach engineers, and stay close to the code and production systems. You’ll partner with the product/business teams to understand the product features and specifications, translate them into high level and low-level design thereby facilitating the team in design and development of mission critical applications. You’ll partner with the Engineering Manager to own the team’s technology outcomes and act as the technical gatekeeper for new initiatives.
The role suits someone who can move comfortably between architecture, implementation, reviews, operational problem-solving, and multiple parallel initiatives - and who can build robust systems from the ground up.

What qualities are we looking for?
B.Tech/M.Tech in Computer Science or equivalent experience, with 6-8 years of software development experience in a product engineering environment.
Strong hands-on engineering ability and sound fundamentals in algorithms, data structures, object-oriented design, and design patterns.
Experience designing and operating distributed, scalable services; able to work through both high-level architecture and low-level implementation details.
Proficiency in at least one of Java or Go.
Practical experience with cloud platforms, relational and non-relational databases, and Linux/Unix environments.
A track record of owning systems or product areas end to end- from problem definition and design through launch, operations, and iterative improvement.
Experience providing technical leadership to engineers: decomposing work, delegating effectively, mentoring, reviewing designs and code, and helping a team deliver together. Formal people management is not required for this IC role.
Strong judgment when balancing delivery speed with reliability, maintainability, and operational risk; able to explain trade-offs clearly to technical and non-technical partners.
Comfort working across several concurrent workstreams and responding to production needs while maintaining focus on the most important outcomes.
Ability to work effectively with agentic AI development tools and understand how to harness generative AI to improve engineering productivity across exploration, implementation, testing, and documentation - while applying sound judgment on correctness, security, and quality.
Supply chain, workforce management, fulfilment, or operations-tech experience is a plus.
What will you get to do here?
Own technical outcomes with the Engineering Manager: Shape the technical roadmap and architecture for Workforce Management and Pod Fulfilment, and take responsibility for delivery, quality, reliability, and long-term maintainability.
Lead as a hands-on IC: Guide technical execution across an 8-10 member team. Break down ambiguous goals, sequence and delegate work, surface dependencies, unblock engineers, and raise the team’s design and code quality through coaching and reviews.
Build from zero to production: Turn business and operational problems into clear technical designs, APIs, data models, services, and production-ready systems. Improve existing platforms where that is the better path.
Be the technical gatekeeper for initiatives: Review proposals and designs for sound architecture, scalability, reliability, operability, security, and maintainability. Identify risks and dependencies early, and ensure initiatives have a safe delivery and rollback plan.
Stay close to production: Use metrics, logs, and traces to diagnose issues, lead technical resolution, and drive root-cause fixes-not just short-term mitigations. Improve observability and operational readiness as systems grow.
Context-switch with intent: Balance roadmap delivery, design decisions, code-level problem solving, production issues, and emerging business needs without losing clarity on priorities or ownership.
Partner across functions: Work closely with Product, Operations, Data, and other Engineering teams to understand constraints, align on trade-offs, and deliver outcomes that work in real operating conditions.
Raise the engineering bar: Champion sound engineering practices, thoughtful reviews, clear technical documentation, and pragmatic choices in tools and technology.
