Internship Description

  • Providing a generalist social work overview with a focus in nonprofit work. Working closely with families in underserved communities to provide high quality services in basic needs areas. The student will gain professional skills in case management, advocacy and community engagement work while learning how to work effectively with a team. 

Interns Essential Functions: 

  • Assisting clients with applying for basic needs programs internally and externally
  • Working with families/individuals in an underserved community
  • Assisting walk in clients with their needs
  • Conducting outbound phone calls to clients needing assistance to ensure they get connected to services.
  • Apply Trauma-informed care meeting clients where they are.
  • Apply classroom learning to real-world social work practices

Qualified candidates:

  • Actively obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Social Work 
  • Passionate about local community work and advocacy efforts
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective processes by employing critical thinking to relate tasks as a way to maximize efficiency through to completion

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This job operates in a professional office environment with a usually quiet noise level. This is largely a sedentary role and the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, frequently use hands and to talk or hear.


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma/general education degree (GED) OR a combination of education and experience that is similarly equivalent.
  • Pass Criminal Background check & Drug Screening

Minimum Competencies:

  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written form.
  • Above average attention to detail
  • Good interpersonal and professional skills including but not limited to professional appearance, tact, punctuality, and dependability.
  • Perform work in a manner that upholds Wayne Metro policies, procedures, and mission.
