Wayne Metropolitan Community Action Agency consists of staff dedicated to serving others, which include professionalism, empathy, respect, excellent client service, maintaining confidentiality, punctuality with regular attendance.
We provide assistance to low to moderate income families to help address their most critical needs. The agency has over 70 programs, including valuable educational, housing, and emergency services.
Internship Description:
- Providing a generalist social work overview with a focus in nonprofit work. Working closely with families in underserved communities to provide high quality services in basic needs areas. The student will gain professional skills in case management, advocacy and community engagement work while learning how to work effectively with a team.
Interns Essential Functions:
- Assist with organization and maintenance of participant files, ensuring required documentation is complete and properly stored.
- Support data entry, validation, and quality assurance activities within HMIS, Salesforce, and other program databases.
- Track program deadlines, including recertifications, inspections, and participant follow-up activities.
- Assist with preparation of reports, spreadsheets, and program tracking tools.
- Conduct research on housing resources, rental units, and landlord contacts to support participant housing search efforts.
- Assist with development of participant, landlord, and staff resource materials.
- Support quality assurance reviews by identifying missing documentation and data discrepancies.
- Attend team meetings and participate in special projects related to program implementation and continuous improvement.
- Maintain confidentiality of participant information and comply with agency policies and procedures.
- Perform other administrative and program support duties as assigned.
- Assist TBRA staff with participant onboarding, file preparation, and compliance-related documentation activities.
Physical Requirements:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This job operates in a professional office environment with a usually quiet noise level. This is largely a sedentary role and the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, frequently use hands and to talk or hear.
Qualifications
Qualified candidates:
- Actively obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Social Work
- Passionate about local community work and advocacy efforts
- Ability to develop and maintain effective processes by employing critical thinking to relate tasks as a way to maximize efficiency through to completion
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma/general education degree (GED) OR a combination of education and experience that is similarly equivalent.
- Pass Criminal Background check & Drug Screening
Minimum Competencies:
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written form.
- Above average attention to detail
- Good interpersonal and professional skills including but not limited to professional appearance, tact, punctuality, and dependability.
- Perform work in a manner that upholds Wayne Metro policies, procedures, and mission.
