The Social Media Content Specialist is responsible for creating, capturing, and publishing engaging social media content that brings the Museum's mission, exhibitions, programs, and experiences to life across digital platforms.
This position serves as the Museum's primary content creator for social channels, producing compelling photography, video, graphics, and written content that builds audience engagement and strengthens community connections. The Social Media Content Specialist translates Museum experiences into platform-specific content that informs, entertains, and inspires.

Create and publish engaging social media content across Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn, and other emerging platforms.

Produce photography, videography, graphics, and written content optimized for each platform.

Capture content during exhibitions, programs, events, educational activities, and behind-the-scenes experiences.

Edit photos and videos for social media distribution using industry-standard tools and best practices.

Execute and maintain the Museum's social media content calendar.

Schedule and publish content across social platforms.

Monitor social channels and ensure timely posting and content updates.

Stay informed on platform updates, emerging trends, and best practices.

Monitor comments, messages, mentions, and user-generated content.

Engage with followers in a timely, professional, and brand-aligned manner.

Provide live and real-time social media coverage of exhibitions, programs, special events, and community initiatives.

Coordinate content capture opportunities with Museum staff and stakeholders.

Track social media performance metrics, audience growth, and engagement trends.

Provide regular reporting and recommendations to improve content performance.

Partner with learning staff, curators, scientists, membership staff, and event teams to identify and capture compelling content opportunities.

QualificationsQualifications & SkillsEducation & Experience

Bachelor's degree in communications, Marketing, Journalism, Digital Media, or a related field.

2-4 years of professional experience in social media management.

Equivalent professional experience in social media content creation or multimedia production may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Essential Functions
While performing the duties of this position, the employee will be required regularly to:
