About the Team:
The Data & Digital team distributes the South China Morning Post’s award-winning journalism on platforms and makes targeted recommendations to the newsroom to improve traffic, engagement and subscriptions.
Purpose of the Position:
SCMP is looking for a Social Community Manager to drive reader participation and engagement.
In this role, you will:
- Manage daily social publishing, copywriting, and schedule curation across Meta, X, LinkedIn, YouTube, and emerging channels, safeguarding brand tone and editorial standards
- Drive reader participation and cultivate a highly engaged audience through active community management and interactive formats (such as AMAs, UGC callouts, host-led channels, and niche community groups)
- Produce and optimize platform-tailored assets to maximize reach and engagement, supporting digital teams during breaking news events and homepage curation
- Partner closely with key editorial desks to establish low-friction distribution pipelines and standardized newsroom SOPs to maximize SCMP brand visibility and leverage editorial authority on social platforms
- Track performance metrics and distribution data while staying ahead of platform algorithms, policy changes, and monetization rules to deliver actionable strategy recommendations to the wider newsroom
- Degree holder in Journalism, Media, or related discipline with 3–5+ years of newsroom experience in an English-language publication
- Proven experience in social community management, audience engagement, and cultivating interactive online communities
- Direct experience with daily social publishing, news gathering, copy editing, CMS operations, and real-time social desk operations
- Deep knowledge of platform algorithms, content policies, monetization mechanisms, short-form video formats, and audience behaviors across Meta, X, LinkedIn, and YouTube
- Strong news judgment with the ability to break down complex stories accurately in a fast-paced environment
- Experience with social media publishing systems, digital analytics tools, and AI-assisted content tools
- Proven capability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and lead change gracefully across traditional editorial desks
- Excellent written and spoken English skills; Cantonese or Mandarin language skills are a plus
Work location will be at Causeway Bay office.
