Scope:
The SIU Supervisor provides direct operational leadership and oversight of the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), working closely with and supporting the Regional SIU Manager in the day-to-day administration, operations, performance management, and strategic direction of the department. This dedicated supervisory position allows the Supervisor to focus on investigator oversight, performance management, compliance, and team development.

Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
 
  • Assist the Regional SIU Manager with daily SIU operations, departmental priorities, workflow management, and strategic initiatives.
  • Provide direct day-to-day supervision, guidance, coaching, and support to SIU Investigators.
  • Serve as the primary operational resource and escalation point for investigative questions, complex matters, and case strategy.
  • Assist with workload distribution and ensure appropriate allocation of investigative resources.
  • Provide operational coverage and leadership support in the Regional SIU Manager’s absence, as appropriate.

Case Oversight & Quality Assurance
 
  • Triage, review, prioritize, and assist with the assignment of SIU referrals.
  • Review investigative files for quality, completeness, timeliness, and adherence to established investigative SOPs.
  • Conduct monthly audits of team members to ensure compliance and quality of work.
  • Monitor case cycle times to ensure cases are worked promptly and efficiently.
  • Facilitate roundtables to ensure appropriate investigative direction and timely resolution.
  • Monitor case aging, diary activity, investigative plans, documentation, and overall file progression.
  • Identify deficiencies and provide timely coaching and corrective guidance when necessary.

Performance & Investigator Development
 
  • Monitor investigator performance against established SIU KPIs, SOPs, and departmental expectations.
  • Conduct regular 1:1 meetings with investigators to discuss performance, workload, case strategy, development, and areas of concern.
  • Manage team performance to ensure all investigators consistently meet expectations.
  • Assist the Regional SIU Manager with performance evaluations, coaching plans, training initiatives, and professional development.
  • Promote accountability, consistency, collaboration, and high investigative standards throughout the team.

Collaboration and Fraud Trend Identification
 
  • Partner with Claims, Legal, Underwriting, Compliance, and other business units on complex investigations and emerging trends.
  • Facilitate investigative roundtables and promote early SIU involvement in potentially questionable or high exposure claims.
  • Identify emerging fraud trends, schemes, referral patterns, and opportunities for proactive SIU initiatives.
  • Support coordination with law enforcement, regulatory agencies, NICB, and appropriate industry partners.

Reporting & Compliance
 
  • Assist with monthly SIU reporting, performance metrics, investigative outcomes, trend analysis, and management reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable state regulations, company policies, SIU procedures, confidentiality requirements, and industry standards.
  • Support the Regional SIU Manager with audits, regulator requirements, departmental projects, and executive reporting.

Education:
  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred, along with 10 years of related leadership experience.

Qualifications:
  • Extensive experience in P&C insurance investigations, preferably within an SIU environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership, investigative judgment, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong understanding of insurance fraud, investigative practices, claims operations, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Proven ability to coach, mentor, develop, and hold investigators accountable.
  • Strong organizational, communication, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
  • Prior supervisory, law enforcement, claims, or investigative leadership experience preferred.
