Meet the Team

Cisco ThousandEyes is a Digital Experience Assurance platform that empowers organizations to deliver flawless digital experiences across every network—even the ones they don’t own. Powered by AI and an unmatched set of cloud, internet, and enterprise network telemetry data, ThousandEyes enables IT teams to proactively detect, diagnose, and remediate issues before they affect end-user experiences. ThousandEyes is deeply integrated across the Cisco technology portfolio, delivering AI-powered assurance insights within Cisco’s Networking, Security, Collaboration, and Observability portfolios. Our distributed Site Reliability Engineering team of approximately nine engineers owns the availability, latency, performance, efficiency, monitoring, emergency response, and capacity planning of the platform while partnering closely with application development teams. We believe in operations, infrastructure, and everything as code, creating a collaborative and pragmatic environment where engineers can manage large-scale systems that receive hundreds of millions of messages per hour.

Your Impact

Design and operate large-scale, highly available distributed systems that allow the ThousandEyes platform to process a constantly growing volume of telemetry data. Use AI Tooling to write high-quality code and automated solutions that enable fast, reliable releases, reduce operational expense, and allow our infrastructure and platforms to scale thoughtfully across regions. Evaluate the scalability, resiliency, performance, and security of production services, including testing high-availability and disaster-recovery measures and addressing potential single points of failure. Troubleshoot complex issues across infrastructure and platform services, participate in the on-call rotation and incident-management process, and turn root-cause findings into lasting reliability improvements. Collaborate with application development teams and other stakeholders to meet internal Service Level Objectives and customer-facing Service Level Agreements while improving the tools, frameworks, platforms, and automation used throughout the service lifecycle.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Proficiency writing production-quality code in at least one programming language, such as Python or Go.

  • Hands-on experience designing, operating, or troubleshooting production systems in AWS and Kubernetes, including participation in an operational on-call rotation.

  • Hands-on experience with infrastructure-as-code tooling and codebases, preferably Terraform.

  • Hands-on experience leveraging AI as a force multiplier of SRE activities, such as automating toil away and improving operational efficiency.

  • Professional experience administering and troubleshooting GNU/Linux systems, including system libraries, file systems, networking, and client-server protocols.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of related experience, master’s degree with 3+ years of related experience, or PhD with related technical knowledge.

  • Experience designing and implementing scalable, resilient, and well-tested distributed systems.

  • Experience with Service Level Objectives, Service Level Agreements, monitoring, alerting, capacity planning, incident management, or disaster-recovery testing.

  • Experience building automation that reduces repetitive work, improves release safety, or increases infrastructure efficiency.

  • Strong communication and documentation skills, including experience writing root-cause analyses and working across engineering teams.

  • Strong sense of ownership, sound technical judgment, and attention to operational and security details.
