About Yondr

Yondr is a disruptor. We challenge convention and simplify complexity. A global developer, owner operator and service provider of data centers, we deliver complex data center capacity needs for the world’s largest tech companies. Our exponential growth sees us looking for extraordinary people to help accelerate us towards our vision: a tomorrow without constraints.

But we can’t do this without you.

About the Role

You will serve as the site Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) lead for Yondr’s operational data center campus in Aldie, Virginia. Working closely with the site operations team and the broader HSE function, you will provide day-to-day HSE leadership, technical expertise and assurance while supporting Operations in the safe and reliable management of a mission critical environment. You will lead the local implementation of Yondr’s HSE management system and regional and global HSE programs while helping build strong HSE capability and ownership across the campus.

In this role, you will work closely with Yondr Operations, facility management teams, vendors, and contractors to identify and manage HSE risk across campus activities. You will provide practical guidance, verify the effectiveness of critical controls, and appropriately challenge or intervene when risk is not adequately controlled. Focus will be placed on the risks associated with mission critical operations, including electrical safety, hazardous energy control, permit to work activities, high risk maintenance and contractor work. You will use field engagement, assurance, operational learning and performance data to identify opportunities for improvement and bring Yondr’s HSE strategy to life at the local level.

Main Responsibilities

  • Provide HSE leadership and assurance across campus operations, including work performed by Yondr employees, facilities management partners, vendors, and contractors. Verify the effective implementation of critical risk controls, including permit to work, hazardous energy control/LOTO, electrical safety, high-risk maintenance activities, contractor management, site inductions and other applicable safe systems of work.
  • Partner with and advise the Site Operations Manager and site leadership team in fulfilling their HSE responsibilities, building HSE capability within Operations while maintaining appropriate independent HSE oversight and challenge.
  • Provide HSE input into the planning and execution of complex and high-risk operational work, including review of risk assessments, work plans, permits, and other work control documentation where HSE involvement is required.
  • Lead site level HSE compliance and assurance activities in accordance with applicable federal, state and local requirements and Yondr standards, including inspections, risk assessments, environmental requirements, emergency preparedness, drills and verification of corrective actions.
  • Lead and support incident investigations and operational learning reviews, including significant events, high potential events and near misses. Identify underlying system, organizational and work planning contributors, translate learning into meaningful improvements, and verify the effectiveness of corrective actions.
  • Deliver site HSE inductions, toolbox talks and training, and maintain accurate site HSE records and documentation
  • Complete all statutory and internal HSE reporting for the campus as per local requirements and agreed reporting cycles
  • Support client and customer stakeholders on site, and assist with internal, external and client audits of the campus
  • Escalate risks, trends and resource needs to the Regional HSE Manager – Americas and implement regional and global HSE programs locally

Qualifications and experience (required)

  • Bachelor's degree in EHS, engineering, business, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in an EHS role, preferably within a mission-critical, data center, facilities management, construction, engineering, or contractor management environment.
  • Experience supporting operational risk in environments involving electrical systems, hazardous energy control/LOTO, permit to work, contractor maintenance or comparable critical risk activities strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing and improving EHS programs and systems to manage operational risk and drive continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence safe work through field engagement, coaching, critical risk management and operational learning, with an emphasis on understanding how work is actually performed and improving the systems and conditions that support safe execution. Working knowledge of U.S. federal and Virginia occupational safety and environmental regulations.
  • Working knowledge of NFPA 70E and B.
  • Demonstrated ability to build credibility with engineers, technicians, facilities professionals, and operational leaders while constructively challenging work when risk is not adequately understood or controlled.
  • Ability to independently assess risk, HSE recommendations and appropriately escalate significant concerns, including situations where operational, schedule, or customer pressures may compete with HSE requirements.
  • Comfortable working within a 24/7 mission critical operational environment, including occasional support for significant high-risk work, emergencies or incident response outside normal business hours when required.
  • Excellent communication, coaching, and reporting skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels, including site teams and senior leadership.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize competing demands, manage multiple initiatives simultaneously, and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-motivated and collaborative team player with a proven track record of achieving objectives through cross-functional partnerships.
