POSITION SUMMARY:

This person responsible for assisting the Program Director/Senior Program Director with overall Program development, training of staff and supervision of all staff on site. The School Age Site Coordinator manages an assigned site daily. This person assists in the long-range planning and implementation of those plans and carries out daily scheduling and planning. The School Age Site Coordinator is expected to uphold YMCA policies and philosophy and to use these objectives as a basis in working with everyone, participants, teachers and caregivers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Organizes, plans, supervises, and executes high quality child care programming that reflects a positive image of the YMCA and its services to the community
  • Plans special events, field trips or programs for school holidays and provides for family events during the year
  • Participates in regular formal and informal program evaluation and effectively implements any improvements or adjustments as needed.
  • Subject to random inspection; must maintain 80% minimum compliance on Association Before and After School Enrichment checklist
  • Interacts with participants to ensure that their individual needs are met
  • Ensures all necessary program supplies are on hand, well maintained, organized, and accessible to program staff at all times.
  • Regularly assumes the same duties as the teachers in the center
  • Responsible for the creation, orientation, instruction, and accountability of program guidelines/expectations for participants and staff.
  • Assists with staff training, leading weekly staff meetings, reviewing participants and staff performance (progress and/or problems
  • Plans, supervises, and executes an environment of customer service excellence
  • Greet caregivers and participants upon their arrival to center
  • Quickly responds to the concerns of caregivers and staff
  • Ensures program information is regularly communicated to caregivers via a variety of channels (signage, print, email, etc.) and maintains regular communication with caregiver families
  • Develops and fosters interpersonal relationships between participants, staff, and caregiver families; is pro-active creating a positive, welcoming environment of cooperation, friendliness, and helpfulness towards staff and customers.
  • Directly supervises other program staff (Sr Group Leaders, Group Leaders, Jr Group Leaders) and volunteers in the performance of their duties by providing guidance, leadership, and training.
  • Actively listens to all participants, staff, and members, showing patience, understanding, and respect for others. 
  • Actively protects the emotional safety of all participants and staff, encouraging development of social skills and emotional intelligence
  • Responsible for the physical safety of participants and staff at all times
  • Responsible for training staff on understanding and implementing emergency procedures as necessary
  • Ensures compliance with all YMCA safety and DCF licensing requirements for school-age programming
  • Assumes responsibility of the Center at all times. Ensures all site-specific opening and closing procedures are completed daily.
  • Monitors the program area at all times to ensure physical safety, uphold all staff safety requirements and immediately makes changes, as necessary.
  • Responsible for maintaining and enforcing all cleanliness standards throughout the day as well as proper safe food handling procedures (particularly with regard to food allergies)
  • Responsible for maintaining and responding to all required daily reports– including but not limited to:
  • Attendance & absenteeism
  • Incidents, accidents, and behavior reports
  • Food Program reports
  • Responsible for any other duties relevant to position as assigned by the Supervisor

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be 21 years of age or older* 
  • Successfully complete State of Florida Criminal History Background Check requirements as well as meet the Association’s policies on background screening 
  • Prior experience working with children and supervising staff
  • Willingness to carry out the Mission of the YMCA and its programs 
  • Professional appearance and behavior 
  • Able to prioritize and meet deadlines and maintain confidentiality 
  • Must be a self-starter, with high energy and a positive attitude 
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills 
  • Adhere to drug/alcohol/smoke free workplace policy

CERTIFICATIONS AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

  • CPR and First Aid Certifications required 
  • Annual completion of YMCA’s Blood Borne Pathogens training 
  • Annual completion of YMCA of the USA Child Abuse and Neglect class 
  • 40 clock hours of Introduction to Child Care Training class*(State Mandated) 
  • 5 clock hours of Early Literacy and Language Development Training class** 
  • 40 clock hours of annual In-Service training completed between July 1st and June 30th of each calendar year (CDA certified personnel only require 10 clock hours)
  • Staff Safety Requirements/Cleaning Protocols
  • Additional training classes as recommended by Supervisor 

**Employee must enroll in these trainings within 90 days of hire date and must be completed within 1 year of hire date if not already completed. Professional Development/CEU’s may qualify in lieu of training-see supervisor for more info). Failure to comply with requirement will result in immediate termination.
