Job Purpose

The SFCC Solution Architect will lead the design and delivery of complex Salesforce Commerce Cloud (B2C Commerce) solutions, with a focus on innovation, scalability, and client satisfaction. As a client-facing, managerial role, this position bridges technical expertise with business acumen to support pre-sales initiatives, mentor a team of engineers and consultants, and ensure the successful delivery of high-quality ecommerce projects.

Key Responsibilities

Architectural Leadership

  • Lead the architectural design for SFCC engagements, including platform migrations, new implementations, and support engagements, ensuring alignment with client goals and best practices.
  • Drive solution innovation by developing scalable, performant digital commerce solutions that optimize customer experience and revenue growth.
  • Serve as the technical authority, advising clients and project teams on Salesforce Commerce Cloud and broader Salesforce ecosystem integrations.

Client Engagement & Pre-Sales Support

  • Actively participate in pre-sales activities, collaborating with sales and client services to translate business needs into sound technical solutions.
  • Lead client-facing discovery sessions and technical workshops, gathering and documenting requirements, scoping solutions, and contributing to proposals.
  • Support sales initiatives with technical guidance, scope estimation, and engagement in solution demonstrations.

Team Management & Mentorship

  • Manage and mentor a team of SFCC architects and consultants, fostering skill development and professional growth.
  • Drive continuous learning within the team, staying current on SFCC and Salesforce platform updates, and disseminating knowledge through webinars, documentation, and internal workshops.
  • Guide the team through solution delivery, troubleshooting complex technical issues and ensuring adherence to quality standards.

Process Improvement & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Act as a strategic advisor within Astound, providing feedback to engineering and product teams to support the ongoing evolution of our service offerings.
  • Collaborate across functions (Sales, Client Services, Engineering) to streamline project methodologies and improve service delivery.
  • Contribute to the Astound community through white papers, blog posts, and presentations, establishing our brand as an authority in the SFCC and digital commerce space:

Basic Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of direct client-facing experience in SFCC solution delivery within a consulting or professional services environment.
  • Proven track record in designing, architecting, and implementing SFCC solutions, with experience in complex integrations.
  • 3+ years in a leadership or managerial role, with a focus on mentoring and developing technical team members.

Travel: Up to 25% travel depending on client or organizational needs. (Some Astound architects never or rarely travel.)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified Salesforce B2C Commerce Developer, preferred
  • Certified Salesforce B2C Commerce Architect, preferred
  • Hands-on experience with the headless commerce approaches including SFCC Composable Storefront / PWA Kit.
  • Hands-on experience across Salesforce platforms (e.g., Order Management Marketing Cloud, Service Cloud, MuleSoft).
  • Experience with Shopify, Adobe Commerce (Magento), commerce tools, or similar, a plus.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, preferred

Technical Skills:

  • Deep expertise in Salesforce Commerce Cloud (B2C Commerce, formerly known as Demandware), with a solid understanding of digital commerce architecture, performance optimization, APIs, and scalability.
  • Proficiency in designing data flows, integration architecture, and system architecture diagrams.
  • Working knowledge of web development languages (HTML, XML, JavaScript) and experience with SaaS models, CRM, analytics, and ecommerce KPIs.

Soft Skills:

  • Strong business communication and client engagement skills, with a consultative approach.
  • Ability to quickly learn new concepts, technologies, and translate them into client solutions.
  • A self-starter with problem-solving aptitude, attention to detail, and the capability to manage and proactively resolve project challenges.
  • Flexibility to work with clients and teammates around the world.
