Our Why

Datacom works with organisations and communities across Australia and New Zealand to make a difference in people’s lives and help organisations use the power of tech to innovate and grow. Within our ServiceNow Practice, we partner closely with customers to modernise service delivery, transform business processes, and unlock the full value of the ServiceNow platform.

About the Role (your why)

As a ServiceNow Technical Consultant - Contractor, in Datacom’s dedicated ServiceNow Practice, you’ll play a key role in designing, building, and delivering high-quality ServiceNow solutions across ITSM, CSM, HRSD, CMDB, Workflow Automation, and broader platform capabilities. This role focuses on developing and implementing ServiceNow solutions aligned to projects, consulting engagements, and customer business outcomes.

You will work closely with customers to understand their business challenges, architect fit‑for‑purpose ServiceNow solutions, and guide them through the full delivery lifecycle — from requirements and design through build, testing, deployment, and training.

Our offices are based across New Zealand, however we'd ideally like the candidate for this role to work from one of our main centre's Wellington, Auckland, Christchurch, Hamilton, or Tauranga. We like to bring people together in person when we can, but we are mindful of the benefits of working from home for work/life balance. We therefore leave it to you and the team you join to figure out what works best!

What you’ll do As a ServiceNow Technical Consultant, you will focus on:

· Designing and delivering high‑quality ServiceNow solutions across multiple workflows and modules.

· Working with customers to evaluate business needs and translate them into scalable ServiceNow architectures and configurations.

· Leading defined project workstreams including requirements gathering, design workshops, sprint planning, and technical implementation activities.

· Configuring and customising the ServiceNow platform including forms, workflows, integrations, automation, business rules, and portal components.

· Supporting installation, testing, and deployment of ServiceNow solutions, and coordinating UAT activities with customers.

· Identifying risks, issues, and continuous improvement opportunities—escalating to leadership as required.

· Developing technical specifications, user guides, configuration documentation, and architectural artefacts.

· Contributing to proposals, solution presentations, and pre‑sales activities in collaboration with our ServiceNow Practice Leaders.

· Staying up to date with ServiceNow releases, best practices, automation approaches, and emerging platform capabilities.

· Ensuring health, safety, and security compliance in all work practices.

We are a pretty agile company, and are keen to respond to customer, technology and internal stakeholders’ changing requirements — and this can mean we evolve in our roles to meet those needs.

What you’ll bring

· 3+ years’ experience in systems design, integration, or technology consulting — ideally with hands‑on ServiceNow delivery experience.

• Demonstrated capability in one or more ServiceNow modules or technical disciplines (e.g., ITSM, CSM, CMDB, Automation, Flow Designer, Integrations).

• Strong analytical and consultative skills with the ability to translate business needs into technical solutions

• Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to converse with both end-users and IT staff

• Technical specification writing and documentation skills

• Ability to work collaboratively and build productive customer relationships

• Business awareness including corporate structure and planning strategies

• Knowledge of industry standards and government regulations in data communications/networking

• Familiarity with modern DevOps tools and automation practices
