Product Security Engineering Manager

This role can be based out of our Seattle or New York City offices or work remotely out of the US.

With a strong security engineering management background, you’re looking for a role that gives you the freedom to increase MongoDB’s resonance with customers by strengthening our products. You’re passionate about leading security engineers to solve hard security engineering problems, while putting a strong emphasis on customer experience. You take ownership and empower your team to collaborate with different areas to innovate and implement pragmatic solutions.

The MongoDB Security organization is a diverse collection of individuals working together to scale MongoDB’s security, both security of the products themselves and the security features we offer to customers. The team is responsible for the MongoDB Database Server (Community and Enterprise editions). We are seeking a motivated people leader to manage the team responsible for the security of MongoDB Database Server and related products. 

The MongoDB Security organization works with software engineers to design, implement, and operate systems in a manner that protects customer and MongoDB data. It is a multidisciplinary organization that covers product, software, cloud, infrastructure, and operational security concerns.  Our organization…

• Defines and drives an engaging, exciting security strategy for MongoDB and our customers
• Builds a developer driven security program where there is tight integration with engineering artifacts, process, and tooling
• Uses software architecture and coding patterns to reduce the impact of security issues
• Are the security subject matter experts for our tech stack and products

• At least 3 years as a people leader within a security domain
• At least 7 years of progressive hands on experience in security, preferably across cloud security and security engineering domains
• An understanding of product security and modern product development lifecycles
• A proven track record of successfully growing and evolving teams of high performing security practitioners
• Superb written and verbal communication, time management skills, and a growth mindset
• A strong understanding of agile-like methodologies and a demonstrated ability to effectively manage team capacity and execution
• A passion for building technical and leadership skills in others through coaching, mentoring, and career development planning
• A strong commitment to building and fostering a diverse and supportive culture that values customer obsession, continuous improvement, and high standards
• A deep sense of ownership, accountability, and pride

• Experience with either high-scale database or cloud computing environments
• Experience scaling security programs within B2B SaaS organizations

• Lead a globally distributed engineering team by creating a positive culture, handling career growth and performance conversations, and aligning team execution to strategy and vision
• You will take ownership, define strategy, and drive improvement for parts of our program such as fuzzing, threat modeling, secrets management, container security, vulnerability management, and other areas of application and product security
• Provide feedback on the feasibility, functionality, design, and timeline of new security engineering proposals
• Serve as a resource for other engineering teams as they take personal ownership for the security of the systems they own
• Hire, mentor and grow strong, high-performing security engineers across multiple domains
