Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Staff Data Scientist. This position will be located in Roy, Utah or Manhattan Beach, CA and will support the Sentinel program.

The SDS Division Analytics team is seeking an experienced data professional to serve as a data engineering technical lead. They will work directly with the Division Analytics Chief Data Engineer, frontend data visualization specialists, and product stakeholders by developing, deploying, and maintaining data pipelines from authoritative data sources needed for metrics and analytics. These data pipelines are crucial for the Division to gain insight into their data to positively influence decision-making at the highest levels and within individual teams. The data engineering technical lead will oversee both long-range goals and near-term objectives of the Division Analytics team related to collecting, managing, and converting raw data into usable information for business analysts to interpret and for division-wide accessibility. They will provide mentorship and leadership to guide junior data engineers, conduct code reviews, and champion engineering best practices.

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.  This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.

Basic Qualifications

  • 12 years professional experience with Bachelors in Science; 10 years with Masters; 8 years with PhD or an additional 4 years of related experience in lieu of degree

  • Must be a US citizen.

  • Experience using various programming languages and tools for data science and data engineering; e.g., Python, SQL, Neo4j, Tableau, AWS, etc.

  • Experience developing, deploying, and maintaining production-quality data ETL/ELT pipelines from various sources using APIs, custom code, and other extraction methods

  • Experience handling structured and unstructured data and using database management systems

  • Experience with distributed (cloud) data storage structures, local databases, and other data storage forms

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with DevOps to include automated deployment (CI/CD) and management of containerization

  • Hands-on experience with pipeline orchestration concepts

  • Experience in data governance and quality such as establishing data quality frameworks, managing metadata, and the implementing security and compliance protocols

  • Experience working with customers/stakeholders to gather, define, and deliver on analytics requirements, often derived from ambiguous goals or objectives

  • Demonstrates system thinking with the ability to see the big picture and make strategic architectural decisions over quick fixes

Primary Level Salary Range: $168,200.00 - $292,100.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
