Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Sr Principal DevOps Engineer. This position can be located in Roy, Utah and supports the Sentinel program.
What You’ll Get To Do:
This role will focus on automating the provisioning and management of servers, storage, and networking across VMware and physical environments, improving efficiency, scalability, and reliability for a software development environment.
As an DevOps Engineer, you will:
Design and develop infrastructure as code (IaC) using tools like Terraform and Ansible.
Develop scripts, workflows, and playbooks for storage provisioning, automation, and backup integration.
Build and maintain automated patching, compliance, and reporting frameworks.
Administer and automate Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and Windows Server environments including OS deployment, configuration hardening, lifecycle management and patching
Manage and automate VMware vSphere based infrastructure including ESXi hosts, clusters, resource pools, templates, and virtual networking/storage objects
Provision, automate, and manage Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) environments using Omnissa Horizon including golden image creation, pool configuration and desktop lifecycle maintenance
Maintain CI/CD pipelines for seamless infrastructure deployments.
Monitor and optimize infrastructure performance to ensure reliability and scalability.
Troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure-related issues efficiently.
Collaborate with other teams to identify automation opportunities, troubleshoot issues, integrate infrastructure solutions and ensure the reliability, scalability, and security of the systems.
Document Processes and configurations for clarity and maintainability.
Optimize infrastructure utilization and reduce manual intervention in operational tasks.
Collaborate with stakeholders to understand diverse automation needs and advocate for unified solutions.
Communicate progress, problems and best practices to management, leads and teammates.
Providing rotating 24x7 on-call support to lead the resolution of system issues and anomalies. On call rotation is subject to change, based on team size, and is currently 1 week of on-call out of every 8-12 weeks.

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.
Basic Qualifications:
Sr. Principal Engineer DevOps: 08 Years with Bachelor’s in related field of study, 06 Years with Masters, 04 Years with PhD or 04 additional years in lieu of a degree.
US Citizenship with Active DoD Secret clearance with a reinvestigation date occurring in the last 6 years.
Ability to obtain Special Program Access (SAP) within a timeframe to meet business needs
4 years experience with build tools (i.e., Maven, Ant, GNU make) and/or continuous integration environments (i.e., Jenkins, GitLab, Bamboo) and/or repositories (i.e. Nexus, JFROG) in a Linux environment
4 years experience of Microsoft and Linux Red Hat operating system.
4 years experience with scripting languages (i.e. PERL, Python, Bash, YAML).
4 years experience with Kubernetes implementation and Day 2 Operations in a CI/CD Pipeline.
4 years experience with VMware Cloud Foundation, Terraform, vCenter, vSphere, or similar Virtual Provisioning.
4 years experience with container technologies (i.e. Kubernetes, Docker, OpenShift)
Working knowledge of Cybersecurity technologies, NIST standards, and RMF governance
IAT Level II certification (e.g. Security + CE) or ability to obtain within 6 months.
Available to support after-hours, on-call, and 24/7 coverage as required by program needs. On call rotation is subject to change, based on team size, and is currently 1 week of on-call out of every 8-12 weeks.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field of study.
Experience with automation/configuration management using either Ansible, Chef or equivalent.
Experience with source code configuration management tools (i.e git).
Experience with HashiCorp Packer and Vault.
Familiarity with container hardening and SBOM
Proficient with DOORS, Cameo with the ability to write and decompose system and software requirements
SAP access
2 years experience with Jira/Confluence in an Agile environment.
Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
Strong critical thinking and logical reasoning skills with the ability to solve issues

Primary Level Salary Range: $122,800.00 - $184,200.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
