Staff Cloud Engineer

Zoox is expanding its focus within the IT Platform team to further our mission of providing Autonomous Mobility. We are seeking a Senior-level Cloud Engineer to support and enhance our use of AWS services. This role involves working cross-functionally with multiple engineering teams to ensure the best practices in cloud infrastructure.

In this role, you will:

• Technical and Business Relationship: Maintain and manage the technical and business relationship between Zoox and its cloud providers.
• Cost Management: Understand and maintain costs associated with Zoox's cloud platforms, ensuring cost efficiency and optimization.
• AWS Best Practices: Implement AWS best practices for security, operations, cost management, resiliency, and performance across Zoox's cloud platforms.
• Cloud Center of Excellence: Establish and lead a cloud center of excellence to drive innovation, efficiency, and best practices in cloud infrastructure.
• Hybrid Cloud Strategy: Collaborate with multiple engineering teams to refine and enhance Zoox's hybrid cloud strategy.

Qualifications:

• AWS Expertise: Strong understanding of AWS products and services in a production environment, including infrastructure, capacity planning, scalability, backups, storage, security best practices, and emerging technologies.
• Cloud Computing Strategies: Deep understanding of cloud computing strategies and architecture, such as multi-cloud hybrid and multi-user environments.
• Cloud Networking: Strong understanding of cloud networking, communication technologies, and cloud networking fundamentals and technologies.
• Cost Optimization: Proven ability to identify and implement cost optimization practices within AWS ecosystems, including total cost of ownership, cloud cost optimization tools, and cost reporting services.
• Cross-functional Collaboration: Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, including Engineering, Operations, and Business Units, to achieve business objectives.
• AI/ML Services: Understanding of AI/ML AWS services and best practices.
• Communication Skills: Expert written and verbal communication skills, with a proven ability to communicate effectively with all levels of business.

Bonus Qualifications:

• Security Best Practices: Experience with AWS security best practices and compliance.
• Emerging Technologies: Knowledge of emerging cloud technologies and their potential applications.
• Team Leadership: Proven track record of working in a collaborative, team-oriented environment, with the ability to lead and mentor junior team members.
• Automation Skills: Proven understanding of software development best practices, programming/scripting languages, and Infrastructure as Code patterns

Compensation

There are three major components to compensation for this position: pay, Amazon Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), and Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights. The pay range for this position is $180,000 to $250,000. A sign-on bonus may be offered as part of the compensation package. Compensation will vary based on geographic location and level. Leveling, as well as positioning within a level, is determined by a range of factors, including, but not limited to, a candidate's relevant years of experience, domain knowledge, and interview performance. The pay range listed in this posting is representative of the range of levels Zoox is considering for this position.
