Summary Generated by Built In

Agility Robotics is a pioneer. Our robot, Digit, is the first to be sold into workplaces across the globe. Our team is differentiated by its expertise in imagining, engineering, and delivering robots with advanced mobility, dexterity, intelligence, and efficiency -- robots specifically designed to work alongside people, in spaces built for people. Every day, we break through engineering challenges and invent new solutions and capabilities that will one day make robots commonplace and approachable. This work is our passion and our responsibility: our mission is to make businesses more productive and people’s lives more fulfilling.

About the Team

Agility Robotics is the first company in the world to deploy humanoid robots in real customer use cases, doing something useful in the world. Our mission is to build robot partners to augment the human workforce. This means developing generally intelligent, generally capable robots to solve the world’s labor shortage and rid the world of dull, dirty and dangerous tasks. We are building a small, independent, and fast-moving innovation team of creative engineers and technologists who are shielded from the daily fires of product deployment, focused on developing the next generation of hardware and physical intelligence.

About The Role

As a Senior/Staff AI Engineer, you will be a team leader, working with experienced hardware and software engineers to develop cutting-edge autonomous capabilities for our humanoid robots. You will focus on areas such as training foundational visuomotor policies for manipulation and locomotion, planning through learned embeddings of goals, tasks and environments and leveraging text and image foundation models for multi-modal conditioning. You will utilize supervised, unsupervised and reinforcement learning methods on both simulation and hardware data.

About the Work

  • Apply, implement, and improve state of the art machine learning algorithms and models and test them in real-world environments and hardware
  • Own and pursue a research agenda, aligned with the innovation leadership, picking the most promising and impactful problems to work on
  • Train models on collocated and cloud compute clusters with data from a variety of sources
  • Stay up to date with the state of the art in reinforcement learning, imitation learning and generative models
  • Team leadership: roughly 50% individual contributor, 50% managing a highly capable team

About You

You love pursuing novel ideas and making them real, are a great communicator, and enjoy working with a highly capable team. You are a fast learner and interested in reading and adapting the latest techniques and models in the emerging AI landscape to new applications.  You are a creative engineer who builds systems from the ground up.

  • PhD in machine learning, computer science, math or related field, or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years experience developing and applying AI/ML methods in industry
  • Experience developing for and operating physical robots
  • Publications in top machine learning conferences (ICML, NeurIPS, CoRL etc)
  • A track record of coming up with new ideas or improving upon existing ideas in machine learning or robotics
  • Proficiency with Python and extensive experience with hardware accelerated tensor libraries such as PyTorch or JAX

Bonus

  • Experience training visuomotor policies and deploying them to hardware
  • Experience training and fine tuning large transformer models (of any modality)
  • Experience in neural network deployment toolchains such as ONNX, TensorRT
