Job Description

I. Job Summary | Major goals and objectives.

EW Senior Writers are responsible for producing breaking news content and other features.

A successful Senior Writer will be a team player who has excellent writing and communication skills as well as a deep love and knowledge of entertainment and pop culture. In addition to covering daily news, this person would work closely with the TV/Movies Editor and Editorial Director to help plan, brainstorm, and execute coverage across network TV, streaming, and film.Successful candidates will be able to produce well-reported and engaging content under tight deadlines. They will collaborate with editors on beat assignments, crafting coverage plans, negotiating exclusives, and cultivating relationships with publicists and other pertinent external collaborators and sources.

The Senior Writer must also be willing to work occasional off-hours and weekends as necessary.

80% - Write breaking entertainment news stories and other features

20% - Cover events, conduct interviews and make rollout plans as needed, and other duties as assigned

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or related field or equivalent work experience

Experience:

Minimum 5-7 years entertainment journalism writing experience

Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Strong knowledge of entertainment, pop culture, and the EW brand
  • An idea generator who can think of new, fresh story ideas
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience with SEO, social media, content management systems, analytics tools, Photoshop

Pay Range

Salary: New York: $90,000.00 - $90,000.00

The pay range above represents the anticipated low and high end of the pay range for this position and may change in the future. Actual pay may vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to work location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of People Inc's total compensation package for employees.
