Slate is looking for an energetic, organized, experienced Senior Wiring Release Engineer to join our growing team. Slate is a new US Based Electric Vehicle company transforming the battery electric vehicle space. Our technology is designed to deliver the most reliable and most efficient low cost of ownership electric vehicle on the market.

| WHAT YOU GET TO DO

The Senior Wiring Release Engineer will develop the requirements and manage the Tier 1 suppliers for different harnesses and jumpers.  This engineer will also work with other groups on determining interface information needed to complete the electrical system design.

This Engineer will report to the Head of Electrical and will be responsible for driving the development of the electrical system requirements for all of the Slate battery electric vehicles. The Engineer will be challenged to develop unique solutions for various harnesses for a non-traditional vehicle.   Responsibilities will be broad in scope and complex requiring creativity, superior initiative, good judgement, and leadership skills. This is a hands-on position that will also require leadership of Tier 1 suppliers.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Design and develop the electrical system for fully electric vehicles based on requirements from the interconnected electrical components
  • Work with the engineering design team in setting design direction and leading development on system features, descriptions with electrical module owners
  • Lead and/or participate in vehicle level technical design reviews with all other groups and suppliers for all Vehicle Subsystems
  • Assist in the definition of all In-line connector selections, the circuit definitions, and sizing as it relates to component and system loads
  • Track Open Issues, communicate issues to all groups and set up meetings as required to close all issues. Escalate major issues immediately to leadership
  • Plan and execute system design timing alignment with overall program timing and mitigate strategies as appropriate to resolve conflicts
  • Create and maintain electrical system level DFMEA and DVP&R where applicable
  • Support electrical wire-harness and component system functions, electrical test lines at vehicle final assembly plant
  • Test, rework, and debug wiring systems on prototype & pre-production vehicles
  • Assure Piece Cost Targets, ED&D Budget, Timing, Weight and Quality intent is achieved
  • Utilize LEAN Engineering methodologies throughout
  • Develop and document test plans for the wiring harnesses.

| WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TEAM

  • Bachelor Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering or equivalent from an ABET accredited or equivalent program is preferred.
  • 8+ years relevant experience
  • Hands on / detail oriented
  • Comfortable working with low voltage and high voltage systems
  • Excellent communication Team building and relationship building skills.
  • Specific experience including
    • Low voltage components such as circuit breakers, relays, wiring, etc.
    • High voltage components such as DCDC, motor and inverter, battery, and on-board charger, etc.
    • Experience with harness development tools such as Capital and Zuken
    • Knowledge of CAN, LIN, Ethernet, LVDS, and A2B protocol physical topology requirements
    • 8D, five whys, and fishbone process to diagnose complex issues
    • PPAP experience developing and creating Design records, FMEA’s, Control Plans, etc.
    • Industry standards such as FMVSSS, NHTSA, DOT, USCAR, SAE, NEC, etc.

Salary Range: The compensation for this position is the range Slate reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for the position taking into account the wide variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including job-related knowledge; skillset; experience, education and training; certifications; work location; and other relevant business and organizational factors.

Base Pay Range (Annual)

$108,877.00 - $163,316.00

Additional Compensation and Benefits: Slate offers a wide range of competitive benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability insurance, vacation, and 401k. The successful candidate may also be eligible to participate in the equity program and/or a discretionary annual incentive program, subject to the rules governing such programs.

Skills Required

  • 8+ years relevant experience
  • Bachelor Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering or equivalent (ABET preferred)

  • Knowledge of vehicle network protocols and physical topology requirements: CAN, LIN, Ethernet, LVDS, A2B
  • Experience with low voltage components (circuit breakers, relays, wiring) and high voltage components (DCDC, motor, inverter, battery, on-board charger)
  • Experience using 8D, Five Whys, Fishbone for root cause analysis
  • PPAP experience including creating design records, FMEAs, Control Plans
  • Ability to create and maintain electrical system level DFMEA and DVP&R
  • Familiarity with industry standards: FMVSS, NHTSA, DOT, USCAR, SAE, NEC
  • Excellent communication, team building, and supplier leadership skills
