Position Summary:

The Sr. Space & Assortment Planning Analyst plays a critical role in optimizing space strategies and planograms to enhance merchandising effectiveness, operational efficiency, and inventory performance. This individual will collaborate with Merchants, Planning & Allocation, and Club Operations to develop strategic template planograms that align with category goals, inventory requirements, and labor sustainability. The role also requires ensuring production accuracy through our offshore team, conducting reviews, and interpreting visual merchandising standards. In addition to standard resets, this role supports new club openings, CMPs, remodels, and a variety of unplanned or reactive initiatives that require agile space planning support.

Key Responsibilities:

Planogram Strategy & Development

  • Develop and refine template planograms that reflect each category’s merchandising strategy, including presentation standards, vendor agreements, and segmentation requirements.
  • Create template planograms (e.g., largest, most common, and smallest formats) to guide trade-off decisions and ensure alignment across club formats. These serve as a clear handoff to the offshore production team, with detailed documentation to support accurate versioning and execution.
  • Balance inventory days of supply, labor requirements, and space allocation to optimize product availability and replenishment efficiency.
  • Collaborate with Merchants and Planning & Allocation teams to incorporate assortment strategies into space planning decisions.

Cross-functional Collaboration & Communication

  • Partner closely with Club Operations to ensure planograms are executable within store labor constraints.
  • Work with Assortment & Space offshore teams, providing clear guidelines and expectations for planogram production.
  • Translate category insights and strategic objectives into actionable planogram solutions.
  • Communicate updates and changes effectively to all stakeholders, ensuring alignment and execution excellence.

Production Review & Quality Assurance

  • Develop a sample review process to assess the accuracy and quality of planograms produced by the offshore team.
  • Implement QA checklists to ensure planograms reflect agreed-upon category strategies, inventory allocations, and visual merchandising standards.
  • Provide feedback and training to offshore partners to continuously improve planogram execution.

Visual Merchandising Interpretation & Execution

  • Ensure that visual merchandising principles are integrated into space planning decisions, supporting an optimal shopper experience.
  • Work closely with Merchandising teams to refine product adjacencies, shelving configurations, and display effectiveness.
  • Validate planograms against in-store execution and adjust for real-world applicability.

Data Analysis & Reporting

  • Analyze space productivity metrics, identifying opportunities to improve sales, profit, and inventory efficiency.
  • Monitor performance trends to refine space allocation decisions over time.
  • Utilize data tools (e.g., JDA, Apollo, or other planogram software) to measure planogram effectiveness and make informed recommendations.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Merchandising, Supply Chain, or a related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in Space Planning, Merchandising, Category Management, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in planogram software (JDA, Apollo, Spaceman, or similar).
  • Experience working with offshore production teams is a plus.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to balance multiple priorities.
  • Expertise in space planning methodologies and understanding of inventory management.
  • Ability to translate category and merchandising strategies into executable space solutions.
  • Excellent cross-functional collaboration and communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong focus on operational feasibility.
  • Ability to interpret and apply visual merchandising standards effectively.
