We are looking for a Senior Variant Scientist, Pod Supervisor who will interpret patients’ genetic data, prepare clinical reports, support related projects, and, in conjunction with other members of team leadership, supervise & lead other team members.
Members of our Variant Science team work either Sunday-Thursday or Tuesday-Saturday in order to best serve our patients. Schedules are determined based upon both individual preference and team needs.
Please note that at this time we are specifically looking for a supervisor to fill a Sunday-Thursday or Tuesday-Saturday role.
Responsibilities Include:
Up to 50% clinical case review:
Accurately classify somatic and germline variants for solid tumor and liquid biopsy NGS panels.
Utilize a variety of in-house software tools to analyze clinical molecular data.
Read and interpret scientific literature and curate relevant findings in a clear, concise, and precise manner.
Summarize somatic and inherited genetic test results to generate high quality clinical reports.
Perform critical quality control functions for molecular reports that comply with quality management programs and standard operating procedures.
Supervise up to 8 members of the Variant Science team
Oversee and manage performance of team members in regard to report generation and curation.
Coach individual team members, with regard to their growth on the team and professional goals.
Conduct annual and mid-year reviews for team members.
Team and Project Leadership
Assist in leading team huddles and meetings
Communicate daily objectives to team
Support assay improvements and implementation of new processes and automation
Participate and lead training for new members and new processes
Assist in hiring new team members
Preferred Qualifications:
MS or PhD degree in Cancer Genetics, Human Genetics, or Biological Sciences
Prior experience in a diagnostic laboratory, clinical report writing, and familiarity with human mutation databases, genome browsers, and HGVS nomenclature.
Strong clinical science acumen - oncology experience is strongly preferred.
Must have utmost attention to detail, excellent verbal and written communication, and a solution-driven mindset.
Ability to create and follow formal documentation, protocols, and project plans
Ability to work in both an individual and group setting. Must be flexible and able to adjust priorities according to workload or business needs.
Previous supervisory role within a CAP/CLIA Genetics laboratory
Illinois Pay Range: $100,000-$125,000
The expected salary range above is applicable if the role is performed from Illinois and may vary for other locations (California, Colorado, New York). Actual salary may vary based on qualifications and experience.
