The Role
The Senior User Researcher will lead research initiatives to shape product strategies, influence roadmaps, and improve research practices, collaborating closely with product and design teams.
Summary Generated by Built In

Artsy’s mission is to expand the art market to support more artists and art in the world. We combine deep curiosity and empathy for collectors, artists, and galleries with clear ownership and accountability for results. We value openness, diverse perspectives, and continuous learning as we challenge the status quo of the art world. We prioritize impact, moving decisively - to build a more transparent, accessible, and inclusive global marketplace.

As we evolve our product organization and deepen our presence in the U.S. market, we are hiring a Senior User Researcher based in New York to embed closely with our NYC-based product and commercial teams and drive high-impact, market-aware research.

The Role

This is a true senior-level position responsible for shaping product strategy, influencing roadmaps, and raising the craft bar for research across the organization.

The Senior User Researcher will own complex research initiatives and act as a strategic partner to Product, Design, Data, and Commercial stakeholders. This role requires strong stakeholder leadership, executive-level communication, and the ability to operate autonomously in a fast-moving marketplace environment.

This position is intentionally NYC-based to enable deep, real-time collaboration with U.S. product teams, and to strengthen research coverage across time zones.

ResponsibilitiesStrategic Research Leadership
  • Lead end-to-end research programs spanning discovery, validation, and post-launch evaluation.

  • Drive research that shapes product strategy and accelerates growth, grounded in a deep understanding of both collector and gallerist needs across our two-sided marketplace.

  • Partner on shaping research priorities, then autonomously design and execute robust research approaches that generate high-impact, decision-ready insights.

Cross-Functional Influence
  • Partner closely with NYC-based Product Managers, Design, Data, and Commercial stakeholders to proactively shape roadmaps.

  • Serve as the voice of the user within cross-functional teams, ensuring decisions are grounded in credible, well-synthesized insight.

  • Influence prioritization through clear articulation of user risk, opportunity, and impact.

Methodological Expertise
  • Design and execute advanced qualitative and quantitative research (e.g., in-depth interviews, usability testing, diary studies, segmentation, surveys, mixed-methods synthesis).

  • Work with Data to integrate behavioral analytics with attitudinal insights.

  • Build and evolve scalable research frameworks for a two-sided marketplace.

U.S. Market & Collector Focus
  • Deeply understand collector and gallery behavior, and art market dynamics.

  • Conduct in-market research with collectors and galleries along with unexplored markets.

  • Serve as a key research presence for U.S. initiatives and experiments.

Craft & Capability Building
  • Elevate research standards across teams through frameworks and templates.

  • Mentor mid-level researchers and guide project scoping.

  • Contribute to long-term research operations and participant strategy.

What We’re Looking For
  • 5+ years of experience in UX or Product Research, ideally in marketplace, or luxury platforms.

  • Demonstrated experience influencing senior stakeholders and shaping roadmap decisions.

  • Strong systems thinking - able to connect user behavior, business metrics, and product design.

  • Proven ability to independently lead large, ambiguous, high-stakes research initiatives.

  • Experience working in distributed, global teams.

  • Based in New York City and able to collaborate in real time with U.S. stakeholders.

Why This Role Is Important Now
  • Strengthens research partnership with NYC-based Product and Commercial teams.

  • Enables real-time collaboration within U.S. planning cycles and maintains time-zone–aligned presence to conduct research sessions with collectors, gallerists, and other stakeholders.

  • Deepens our understanding of the U.S. collector and gallery market.

  • Expand the depth and impact of the research team by leading high-priority initiatives that support transformative product and marketplace goals.

  • Ensure balanced research coverage across London and New York product hubs, with on-the-ground presence in NYC to embed research within key commercial and sales moments that shape product priorities.

What We Offer:
  • Opportunity to reimagine the art industry while working with a talented, diverse, international team.

  • Competitive salary and equity

  • Flexible time off: our culture of trust and empowerment allows employees to take the time they need away from work while still excelling in their roles

  • We are a global hybrid team: most employees work from our NYC, London, or Berlin offices 2-3 days per week. (In-person expectations vary by role)

  • Comprehensive healthcare & benefit options, including: medical, dental, parental leave, short- and long-term disability, Employee Assistance Program featuring free mental health support, 401k, commuter benefits, flexible spending accounts (FSA), health savings accounts (HSA), financial wellness support & resources, and more

  • Professional development, including: mentoring, lunch & learns, regular training, 1:1 management, and an open feedback culture

  • Engaging opportunities and internal programming globally, to foster new relationships and build upon our collaborative community. Including: happy hours, holiday parties, global "All Hands" meetings, "Artsy Salon" (a yearly exhibition of our team's creativity), attendance to art world events, and more

The salary range for this role spans across multiple levels from $115,000- $130,000 annually. Artsy is committed to equitable compensation practices, and your offer will depend on the relevant experience and skillset you bring to the team.
