Define the visual design balance among accessibility, ease of use, aesthetics and feasibility.
Design the visual hierarchy, behavior, and appearance of new features and enhancements to
Gale's library products. Create wireframes, workflows and/or mock-ups to support the
requirements of your projects. Create functional prototypes to support usability tests conducted
by the team's User Experience Researcher. Participate in UX team design reviews, bringing
insight and concerns to light around our design guidelines based on incoming user feedback.
Ensure consistency of the user flow, visual presentation and application of existing branding
across all products. Act as the user-advocate during the design and development process,
subjecting early-stage designs to usability testing or expert review, and offering implementation
suggestions from a user-centered design perspective. Act as the "go to" person with in-depth
knowledge of general user interface best practices and standards. Evangelize learnings from UX
research throughout the organization. Find opportunities to scale design solutions and implement
them across products and platforms. Facilitate collaborative team activities like a collab design
session, design sprint or ideation workshop. Analyze ineffective internal processes, recommend
actionable improvements and work to implement them. Work directly with product, sales or
marketing to inform the strategy for a product. Craft the behavior and visual presentation of your
projects by translating your designs into JIRA stories, collaboratively with a product manager
and systems analyst. Suggest improvement to existing products that create a more intuitive user-
experience. Determine and execute the best responsive strategy and collaborate with engineers to
maintain the integrity of the user experience on any device. Proactively drive forward positive
user experience changes from the UX team into the product organization, making a business case
around the changes. Discover and communicate the texture of a project's requirements during
early project meetings. Attend usability tests aiming to validate product concept and designs. Use
both qualitative and quantitative research to inform design decisions, and justify design decisions
with UX research and visual design best practices. Develop user journey maps and/or story maps
to help team discovery and ideation.
Requires: Master's degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Visual Design, Web Design,
Educational Technology and Applied Learning Sciences, Computer Science, or a related field,
plus three (3) years of experience designing websites, web applications, responsive web apps,
and eCommerce applications at an agency or in-house corporation.
Or, alternatively, Bachelor's degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Visual Design, Web Design, Educational Technology and Applied Learning Sciences, Computer Science, or a related field, plus five (5) years of experience designing websites, web applications, responsive web apps, and eCommerce applications at an agency or in-house corporation.
Candidate must also possess:
Demonstrated expertise ("DE") utilizing Axure to create the full spectrum of project design needs from low to high fidelity. DE applying WCAG 2.1 A and AA accessibility compliance guidelines to UX designs. DE utilizing research and ideation methods, including heuristic analysis, contextual inquiry, usability testing, persona building and story mapping. DE writing developer-ready requirements for UX designs and supporting software developers as designs are built.

The full base pay range has been provided for this position. Individual base pay will vary based on work schedule, qualifications, experience, internal equity, and geographic location. Sales roles often incorporate a significant incentive compensation program beyond this base pay range.
