The Role

Define the visual design balance among accessibility, ease of use, aesthetics and feasibility.

Design the visual hierarchy, behavior, and appearance of new features and enhancements to

Gale's library products. Create wireframes, workflows and/or mock-ups to support the

requirements of your projects. Create functional prototypes to support usability tests conducted

by the team's User Experience Researcher. Participate in UX team design reviews, bringing

insight and concerns to light around our design guidelines based on incoming user feedback.

Ensure consistency of the user flow, visual presentation and application of existing branding

across all products. Act as the user-advocate during the design and development process,

subjecting early-stage designs to usability testing or expert review, and offering implementation

suggestions from a user-centered design perspective. Act as the "go to" person with in-depth

knowledge of general user interface best practices and standards. Evangelize learnings from UX

research throughout the organization. Find opportunities to scale design solutions and implement

them across products and platforms. Facilitate collaborative team activities like a collab design

session, design sprint or ideation workshop. Analyze ineffective internal processes, recommend

actionable improvements and work to implement them. Work directly with product, sales or

marketing to inform the strategy for a product. Craft the behavior and visual presentation of your

projects by translating your designs into JIRA stories, collaboratively with a product manager

and systems analyst. Suggest improvement to existing products that create a more intuitive user-

experience. Determine and execute the best responsive strategy and collaborate with engineers to

maintain the integrity of the user experience on any device. Proactively drive forward positive

user experience changes from the UX team into the product organization, making a business case

around the changes. Discover and communicate the texture of a project's requirements during

early project meetings. Attend usability tests aiming to validate product concept and designs. Use

both qualitative and quantitative research to inform design decisions, and justify design decisions

with UX research and visual design best practices. Develop user journey maps and/or story maps

to help team discovery and ideation.
