The Alternative Markets Division is looking for a Senior Underwriting Product Specialist to join their team. We are open to candidates in either Cincinnati OH or Windsor CT. Great American’s culture is built on connection, shared learning, and strong relationships. To support this, employees in this role are expected to be onsite four days a week, with the flexibility to work one day remotely. Core in‑office days are Tuesday–Thursday, with the fourth day determined by business needs.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
Develops and leads the implementation of technical training programs tailored to the needs of the underwriting team, with a focus on product-specific knowledge.
Support the development, implementation, and ongoing refinement of underwriting strategy, guidelines, and product frameworks to ensure profitable growth and consistent risk selection.
Leads and facilitates engaging and effective training sessions, ensuring that all underwriters understand and can apply product-specific underwriting guidelines.
Updates training materials to reflect changes in underwriting guidelines, regulatory requirements, industry best practices, and product features.
Develop and enhance Alternative Markets insurance products through the design and maintenance of proprietary forms, rates, rules, endorsements and coverage solutions that support divisional objectives, profitable growth, and competitive differentiation.
Design and implement innovative insurance solutions tailored to specialty programs and niche markets aligned with underwriting objectives, market demands, and the Alternative Markets risk appetite.
Provides regular feedback and coaching to underwriters based on assessment results, leading to measurable improvements in performance.
Collaborates with underwriting leadership, product development teams, subject matter experts, and other stakeholders to identify training needs and develop innovative and tailored training solutions.
Partner with business and technology teams to implement product enhancements, underwriting changes, forms, rates, and system functionality while ensuring consistent business operations.
Ensures all training initiatives adhere to and exceed industry standards and regulatory expectations.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Risk Management and Insurance, Finance, Education, or a related field or equivalent experience.
Experience: Generally, a minimum of 10 years of experience in Underwriting, Product Management, or Technical Training. Completion of or continuing progress toward a professional designation preferred, such as Associate in Underwriting (AU), Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC), Program in General Insurance (INS), Associate of Risk Management (ARM) and/or continuing education as a professional trainer (Certified Trainer, Train-the-Trainer, etc.)
Scope of Job/Qualifications: Responsible for developing, implementing, communicating, and monitoring compliance of company guidelines, policies, systems, underwriting processes, procedures, legislative, regulatory, and market conduct issues. Stay informed about changes in regulations, industry trends, and product developments, and proactively adjust training content to maintain compliance and relevance. Demonstrates excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to coach and work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment and across departments. Advanced instructional design and training delivery skills. Viewed as a senior resource on the Underwriting Product team. Provides technical advice and support to lower-level positions.

Professional designations such as CPCU, AU, ARM, CIC, INS, and other industry credentials.
