What you’ll do 

  • Lead the design, prototyping, and development of bespoke typefaces for a diverse portfolio of global clients, ensuring profound alignment with brand strategy and business objectives.
  • Oversee and strategically manage the entire typographic creation lifecycle for multiple concurrent projects: from initial concept and client pitching through meticulous prototyping, development, production, and final font mastering.
  • Serve as a primary liaison and expert advisor to global clients and internal teams, developing and delivering compelling presentations and pitches that articulate the creative journey, strategic design decisions, and ultimate value proposition.
  • Drive collaborative efforts with multidisciplinary teams (strategists, brand designers, finance, legal, etc.)
  • Set and uphold an exceptionally high standard of execution, demonstrating meticulous attention to detail, advanced typographic craftsmanship, and a commitment to technical excellence.
  • Actively contribute to thought leadership and innovation within the team and industry, staying at the forefront of branding, typographic design trends, and technological advancements.
  • Lead the complex development of multilingual fonts for international markets, ensuring cultural sensitivity, linguistic accuracy, and consistent quality across diverse writing systems and character sets.
  • Manage project timelines, resources, and deliverables across multiple global engagements, ensuring successful outcomes and client satisfaction.

 

What you’ll need 

 

  • A deep and proven track record in type design operating successfully at Senior Director level, with a world-class portfolio showcasing exceptional technical skill, innovative creative vision, and a comprehensive understanding of commercial application. You will report to the Design Director as part of a specialist Type Design Team.
  • Design, prototype, and develop bespoke typefaces for global clients, ensuring alignment with brand strategy.
  • Expert-level proficiency in Glyphs (our primary tool), alongside a strong command of related font development software and workflows.
  • Mastery of all advanced typographic development stages: Spacing, hinting, meticulous kerning and comprehensive technical optimization for various platforms and environments.
  • Exceptional client-facing communication and presentation skills (written and verbal), with the ability to articulate complex design rationale, manage stakeholder expectations, negotiate solutions, and inspire confidence in diverse international audiences.
  • A strategic and holistic understanding of branding and typography as a fundamental driver of visual identity, with a demonstrated ability to translate strategic business objectives into impactful typographic solutions across all brand touchpoints.
  • Fluent command of the English language (written and verbal) is essential for effective collaboration and client liaison across international teams and diverse cultural contexts.
  • Advanced proficiency in developing Latin typefaces; extensive knowledge and design experience in multiple scripts (e.g., Cyrillic, Arabic, Indic, East Asian) is a significant advantage and highly valued.
  • Engineering and coding skills applied to type design are a significant advantage and highly valued.
