Job Description
The Sr. Technical Writer with 3-6 years experience, will assist with the creation and maintenance of various types of documentation. This role includes writing, editing, and maintaining product and procedural documentation, as well as managing and updating the client documentation portal.
In addition, the role involves planning, developing, and producing instructional and product-related video content, including screen recordings, walkthroughs, and multimedia tutorials to enhance user understanding and engagement. The candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate complex technical concepts into clear, concise, written, and visual content.
Key Job Functions/Responsibilities
- Plan, develop, organize, write, and translate product documentation in compliance with the company’s established guidelines and standards, within the requested deadlines.
- Collaborate with product managers and subject matter experts to gather project requirements, analyze documentation needs, and schedule realistic delivery timelines.
- Create and enhance visual content such as charts, graphics, and screen captures to clearly illustrate complex concepts.
- Develop documentation for multiple formats including print, online help systems, and digital platforms.
- Utilize MadCap Flare for authoring, editing, and publishing structured documentation.
- Design and develop video content, including storyboarding, scripting, and producing short instructional videos (e.g., 2-minute tutorials, product walkthroughs, and how-to demonstrations).
- Leverage AI-powered tools to improve content creation efficiency, including drafting, editing, summarization, visualization, and multimedia generation.
- Apply AI and automation techniques to streamline documentation workflows, improve content consistency, and drive process improvements across the documentation lifecycle.
- Provide writing, editing, and design support to other team members to ensure high-quality deliverables.
- Continuously identify and implement innovative ways to deliver effective, user-friendly documentation and multimedia content to customers.
Basic Skill Level Requirements
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Technical Writing, English, Journalism, or another writing-related or Information Systems/Computing-related subject.
- Alternatively, comparable training in Technical Writing with several years’ experience.
Technical Skills/Skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Expertise in MadCap Flare, Canva, and Camtasia.
- Experience in technical design, layout, and production concepts and practices.
- Understanding topic-based writing and ability to write in explanatory and procedural styles.
- Strong research, analytical, and writing skills.
- Strong project management skill is an asset.
- Skilled at prioritization and multi-tasking.
- A successful candidate must be a reliable team player able to effectively manage multiple deadlines with minimal supervision.
Software Requirements
- Proficient in MadCap Flare, Canva, and Camtasia.
- Knowledge of XML, HTML, and CSS.
- Knowledge of version control system (GitLab, SVN).
- Knowledge of SnagIt, MadCap Capture, PaintShop Pro or similar screen capture applications.
- Knowledge of MadCap Mimic, Adobe Captivate, or similar program is a plus.
Proficient in Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio.
