The Senior Technical Services Manager will lead the Technical Services Team at the Tuas API facility, ensuring robust API manufacturing, validating processes, and developing sustainable business strategies while managing a scientific team and collaborating with various departments.

POSITION SUMMARY - The Tuas, Singapore API Facility is a key strategic manufacturing part of the PGS Network. Many of the Pfizer's important new innovative medicines are being transferred to the Site to support the overall growth and breakthrough strategy.
The Tech Services Sr Manager will be responsible for leading the Technical Services Team at the new Tuas API facility resulting in an improved scientific and technical understanding of API manufacturing and validations across the entire portfolio of products manufactured in the Tuas API site.
The team consists of a diverse and multidisciplinary team of process development scientists, development chemists, analytical scientists, development technologists and validation subject matter experts, which will support and continuously improve all facets of manufacturing, technology, and validation systems.
The role will entail developing a sustainable business strategy that can predict and respond to changes in science and technology thus ensuring that the team's expertise and technical capability sustain, not only, the sites' current needs but also its future needs.
The role will report to the Operations and Technical Services Director and focus on the Technical Services (TS) department for the new facility.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES -
  • Support the HAZOPs and FMEAs for all the products in the new facility
  • Implement robust systems for ensuring product and process knowledge management.
  • Ensure the key site systems and processes for delivery of robust processes are embedded in the organization
  • Use a data driven approach to proactively identify process improvement opportunities and prevent processes issues.
  • Provide technical support for routine production and where appropriate, lead technical process investigations.
  • Support Tech Transfer processes by partnering with New Product Introduction (NPI) lead to ensure flawless commercialization of new products.
  • Lead / Project manage, internal/external, high priority cost improvement projects and targeted Next Gen project activity
  • Build effective relationships both internal and external to the site. Externally, both within the Pfizer network and with other industry partners, and academia to add value to the business.
  • Provide a center of technical excellence utilizing the laboratory facilities, equipment, and analytical techniques to enhance the technical depth and knowledge for both the site and the network.
  • Ensure continuous improvement through the development of a competitiveness plan and design and implementation of innovative technical strategies to continually improve processes including promoting the use of innovation tools, PAT applications and new technologies.
  • Technical Support for ongoing regulatory queries/responses.
  • Responsibility for regular review of distressed inventory stock and development of remediation strategy.
  • Lead and support the needs of a diverse scientific team, nurture and develop their talent and inventiveness.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS -
Work closely with New Product Introduction and Operations teams on product startups
Work with Global Technology and Engineering, R&D, Manufacturing Technology Development Center (MTDC) and Process Development Center.
RESOURCES MANAGED -
Financial Accountability
Departmental Budget - Headcount, Expense, Technical Equipment purchase and specification.
Delivery of material usage (yield) improvement projects.
Delivery of continuous improvement projects for budget savings.
Distressed inventory reduction/elimination.
Supervision -
Approx 10-15 direct reports.
Periodic supervision of PhD studentships or lab-based interns to develop talent for the future.
EDUCATION -
PhD in chemistry or relevant discipline is preferred.
EXPERIENCE -
  • At least 10 years relevant experience in pharmaceutical or similar industries or related experience
  • At least 5 years' experience in a relevant leadership position.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with other functions on technical matters
  • Proven ability to deliver on business targets and implement change programs in an efficient and timely manner
  • Proven ability to develop talent and identify improved technologies to meet the future business
