With continued growth and new project wins, our Queensland Bridges Team has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Bridge Engineer to join us in Brisbane.

We are looking for someone with at least 12 years of relevant bridge engineering experience, with strong technical capability in the design and delivery of bridge projects. We are open to candidates at different levels of seniority, including highly experienced Technical Directors, where their background and experience are well aligned with the needs of the team.

This is an opportunity to take a key technical role within a growing bridges team, helping deliver complex bridge and transport infrastructure projects, providing trusted technical advice to clients and developing the capability of our people. You will work across a diverse portfolio including bridges, civil structures, cut-and-cover structures and large retaining structures.
In this role, you will:

  • Lead and contribute to the technical delivery of bridge and complex civil structures projects, from planning and design through to verification and construction support.
  • Provide technical expertise and trusted advice to clients, project teams and other GHD Business Groups and offices.
  • Lead, coordinate and review bridge designs, working collaboratively with engineers, designers, drafters and other disciplines.
  • Provide technical review, checking and assurance to maintain high standards of quality across project delivery.
  • Mentor and support engineers, contributing to the continued development of technical capability across the team.
  • Lead and manage design teams of varying sizes to deliver high-quality outcomes on time and within budget.
  • Support the preparation of proposals and pursuit of project opportunities in collaboration with the Team Leader and Business Group Leader.
  • Lead and contribute to structural engineering investigations, assessments and design.
  • Undertake site inspections and provide construction-phase technical support and surveillance where required.
  • Prepare and review high-quality technical reports in accordance with client and GHD requirements.

What you will bring to the team

  • A minimum of approximately 12 years of relevant experience in bridge and transport infrastructure engineering, with strong experience in steel and/or concrete bridges.
  • Demonstrated experience across the bridge project lifecycle, which may include feasibility and concept design, detailed design, design verification and construction support.
  • Strong technical capability in bridge engineering, with experience leading, coordinating or reviewing structural designs.
  • Sound professional judgement and commercial awareness, with the ability to develop practical technical solutions within project, programme and budget constraints.
  • Experience working collaboratively within multidisciplinary design teams and managing interfaces with other disciplines.
  • Strong client and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical matters clearly and confidently.
  • An interest in mentoring engineers and contributing to the development of technical capability within the team.
  • Sound knowledge of contemporary bridge engineering practices, relevant technologies, Australian Standards and client specifications.
  • Queensland bridge experience, particularly with TMR and Queensland Rail, will be highly regarded. Experience with TfNSW, Sydney Trains, ARTC or other major Australian transport authorities will also be valued.
  • A bachelor’s degree in civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Chartered status with Engineers Australia and RPEQ registration, or the ability to obtain these credentials.

This is an opportunity to take an important role within a growing Queensland bridges team while connecting with GHD’s broader global bridge community. You will have the opportunity to influence technical outcomes, work across significant transport infrastructure projects and help develop the next generation of bridge engineers.
