JOB TITLE: Senior Technical Application Specialist

SALARY: £72,702-£88,858

LOCATION(S): Edinburgh, Bristol, Leeds or Manchester  

HOURS: Full-time – 35 hours a week – Monday to Friday

WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at one of our office sites

As a Senior Technical Application Specialist – Compliance Engineering, you’ll play a key role in shaping and advancing regulatory security monitoring capabilities—combining deep technical expertise with an engineering-led approach to deliver scalable, automated and auditable solutions.
You’ll operate at the intersection of security, data engineering and platform delivery, helping drive innovation while ensuring robust regulatory compliance across the enterprise. 

What you’ll be doing:

  • Design, build and evolve regulatory security monitoring and compliance capabilities, ensuring controls are scalable, resilient and continuously verifiable.
  • Lead the development of security telemetry and monitoring solutions (including Database Activity Monitoring), enabling effective detection, assurance and regulatory compliance.
  • Architect and optimise configuration of our alerting use cases, integrating complex and diverse data sources across cloud and on-premise environments.
  • Drive continuous compliance practices, embedding automated control validation, monitoring and evidencing into engineering workflows.
  • Apply and promote modern engineering practices, including CI/CD, automation, testing and infrastructure and configuration as code to improve quality, speed and reliability.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to team members, supporting capability uplift and collaboration across the lab.
  • Challenge existing approaches and drive continuous improvement, finding opportunities to improve efficiency, scalability and control effectiveness.

What we’re looking for:

We’re looking for an experienced engineer who brings a strong engineering approach to security and compliance, with a passion for building scalable, automated solutions and driving technical excellence.
 

You’ll bring:

  • Strong experience in security monitoring, telemetry or compliance engineering, including platforms such as Database Activity Monitoring or similar.
  • Proven ability to design and deliver data-driven monitoring solutions, including pipelines, ingestion frameworks and automation.
  • Deep understanding of security logging, deploying detective configuration and regulatory control environments (e.g. SOX, SWIFT CSP, audit logging).
  • Experience working with modern cloud platforms (GCP, AWS or Azure) and distributed architectures.
  • Strong problem-solving capability, with a structured and analytical approach to complex technical challenges.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and work across engineering and security teams.

And any of these would be great:

  • Strong programming or scripting capability (using Python, SQL or similar).
  • Experience with DevSecOps practices, CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code.
  • Familiarity with observability platforms, Security monitoring tools or large-scale data analytics frameworks.
  • Understanding of distributed system or event-driven architectures.
  • Experience mentoring or supporting the development of other engineers.
  • Interest in, or experience with, AI and automation in security and compliance.
